Pebble Beach #7 Intarsia
Well after many trials and tribulations I finally finished my rendition of Pebble Beach# 7 for my son who lives in San Diego. We will be visiting him next week and he has no idea that I made this for him.
The frame is 11" x16" oval made from Peruvian walnut. Intarsia woods; bushes and water--blue mahoe; Sand traps and crashing waves--holly; rocks--zericote; green--palo santos; grass--poplar; sky and sails on large boat--tulipwood; flag and sails on small boat--pau amerillo; mountains--purpleheart. 68 pieces. This was a challenging project.

I didn't know wood came in so many colors! It looks great!
I have relatives that live near Midlothian Tnpke & Rt 76. If thats near you, I might stop in and visit your shop on the next trip up there.

Re: Pebble Beach #7 Intarsia
Mike, another outstanding piece

. You really must have a excellent source for wood. That is some of the whitest Holly I have ever seen. In fact all the woods excel in their natural colors. Do you experience much fading over time? Do you protect the wood from UV exposure? If fading or oxidizing does occur, does it mess up the picture that you've "painted"?

Honestly Honey, that will cost around$100$150$200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: Pebble Beach #7 Intarsia
Thanks guys-- this really was a fun little project.
To Dan- Don't hesitate to give me a call when you are in the Richmond area. Would love to have you come by the shop and talk sawdust.
To Dave O--As you know, most woods will change over time and there really isn't too much that can be done to prevent it. But knowing what the woods do over time can sometimes be incorporated in the design and selection process. For instance I know that osage orange is a nice bright yellow when freshly cut ,but over time will turn an ugly brown so I don't use it for yellow.I know that Pau-amerillo will hold it's color and will actually become more yellow in time. Some of the pieces that I did 15 years ago have definately aged but are really more beautiful now than when the woods were fresh cut.wdkits1 www.midlothianwoodworks.com My CustomMade Page http://www.custommade.com/by/mikemathieu/
