first project
For my first major turning project I found something that was easy to do, it has been cold in the shop so easy was good:lol::lol::lol:
I come out ok not great but ok.
Some WIP pictures, 1st glue up, second glue up, third glue up, cleaning and truing the faces of the rings, and then turning it both sides, and it finished8-O
thanks for looking

Re: first project
If you call that easy, I'm in big trouble!!! I don't think I could even get it glued up, much less turned

Nice job on the turning, Earl.Randy

Re: first project
WOW Earl, you have some natural talent (not that I am shocked by that at all). That's an awesome segmented bowl. I haven't even had the guts to try something like that. You're making me look like a slacker. You're making that HF lathe really work for you
How was the turning of the segments? And what tool(s) did you use? I have only turned solid bowls, and wonder if you go about it the same way. Is that a PSI chuck?

Honestly Honey, that will cost around$100$150$200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: first project
Turning segmented bowls can be challenging because of the different "hardness/softness" of the woods. You get moving along and all of a sudden you can dig into a softer part. Great looking bowl!

Re: first project
The hardest part was turning the inside:-?
I am learning to use the tools and so just because I used one dosnt mean it is or isnt the best/right/smart one to use, I was trying to see what I could do with them, I used all the gouges, some skews, the round scraper, and some oland tools
Yes thats a psi chuck, and the beautiful mrs. Rasmussen got me a full assortment of jaws
