The new software has in fact added some new features and behaviors. In addition I have made some other changes.

Settings
VBulletin has added about 1/3 more settings. I have taken an educated guess as to what values these settings should have. I believe it will take a few days to tune these new and some old settings for the best balance of functionality and performance. Of course your input on the how the system is running will be required.

Main Menu
Using some constructive criticism that I solicited a while ago, I have made the the main menu static. That means the names and functions and positions of the menu items will stay the same regardless of of what page you are viewing.

In-line Edit
Now when you click on the Edit button of a post, instead of a new edit window being display, you will be able to edit in place in place.

Quick Reply
When viewing a post or a thread there will be a Quick Reply edit box at the bottom of the screen. For simple replies, you will click on the icon on the bottom right of the post display box of the post that you wish to reply to and the screen will scroll down to the Quick reply box and it will be enabled.

Improved Post and Thread Not Read functionality
The system will now maintain whether or not you have read a post or a thread for 10 days instead of the few minutes that it did before. This will increase the usefulness of the "New Posts" considerably. The 10 day number can be changed as it falls into one of those new settings categories than we can tune.

Spell Checker
Our old Spell Checker was a kludge I found and was not particularly very good. VBulletin 3.5 now has its own native hook into a much better Spell Checker cal ieSpell. In the upper right corner of a new post box you will see an icon with ABC check mark in it. Clicking on will provide an excellent spell check. The first time you click on it, it will ask you to allow the automatic download and installation of ieSpell as an extension to IE. Please do it. It is harmless and works very well from that point forward. The good news that you can also Spell Check other forums and such with it, like WoodNet. The bad news is that it only works with IE. I will be exploring other options for other browsers.

Smilies
The category system of smilies that I added to this site's forums, is now built into vBulletin 3.5. It is essentially the same piece of code as before, but now it is supported and works a bit smoother.

FlashChat
This was upgraded to be compatible with vBulletin 3.5, but it is a much newer version and has a great deal more functionality for tuning and configuration. We'll have to explore this together.

Service Requests
The service request system That I implemented was broken totally by the new release. At this time I only have Request Photo Album working.

Custom Header messages
The system will now now recognize four conditions and display welcome messages in the header. The conditions are:
Guests
Registered but not activated
Has never posted
Hasn't posted recently.

Most of these features will have problems, need more explanation, need tuning, etc, please post these issues as you come across them to the Problems & Bugs or the All Other Site Issues forums as appropriate. There will be enough of these that everyone will want to know and I will not be able to answer PMs about these matters.

Thanks for all your hard work Steve. I hope you and your family had a great Christmas and you had a chance to relax for awhile.

Steve,

Thanks for all of your effort. As an addict, with no intention of recovery, it's good to have the site back.

I like the new spell check function, much more advanced. Also the "New Post" set up is better. Those are the things that I can see, I am sure that the behind the scenes processes are working better also. Great job Steve, you've made a great thing better., and brought it back before my withdrawal kicked in.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

I downloaded the spell check software and it does work well. It's a little scary to download spell check software that has a typo in the intro text!

I love the modification to the new post screen!!!

Steve...nice job getting the site back up quicker than expected...saw something in the Buy and Sell section...the banner across the top reads as follows:

Buy and Sell Tools, etc Members and non-members my post Tools and related iitems that they wish to buy and sell.

You may want it to read as follows (highlighted for clarification only):

Buy and Sell Tools, etc Members and non-members may post Tools and related items that they wish to buy and sell.

[edited: looks like I need to check my own stuff]

thanks...a

Nice job Steve; funny how quiet my lunch times were without the site to browse around.
