Thumbs up

This photo gallery allows for the bulk uploading of pictures to your Gallery. You may noticed the option it at the bottom of the upload page.

What does it do? First you copy all the pictures you want to a special directory on the webserver. Then you go to the upload function and check the "Bulk upload" check box and the system will process all the picture that you have copied to the directory. It will display a list of Thumbnails that are currently in the special directory. You use which files you actually want to go in to the your album. (by default all) and then you have the chance to change titles and/ or descriptions and the hit the process button and it is all done.

This may sound harder that it really is, once you have done it once, it is real a snap.

Ok, so do you get a chance to try this?
Well first, I have to create the special directory, then I must create a FTP account for you What sounds to technical? Not really, for those of you who already have FTP client on your machine, you probably will understand that is no big deal. For those of you who don't know about FTP and don't want to, don't worry. Everything you need is already included in windows XP.
It is called MY Network Places and it will move files between your computer and the web server almost as easily as moving files between directories on your computer. I or someone else will provide a short tutorial on how to setup.

So here's the question, Would you be interested?

I've attached the poll.

Please as usual respond to poll and ask any question or add comments in this thread.

So since this capability has always been there, why am I asking now? First, I noticed a few people have been uploading quite a few pictures. I think we would be getting even more, if the posting process for large group of pictures were easier. And finally, while I have not been told this directly., there is reason to believe that the long term difficulties of another but un-named woodworker's online photo Gallery is beginning to create a degree of unease with its members. Plus even when it was working a while ago, they did not seem to be taking new members.

While I was out of town, I received a webmaster email, wondering if I would consider accepting limited memberships for the gallery from non-NC'ers. I declined.

For my purposes, a bulk upload might be helpful for posting a group of pictures I've already accumulated. After the initial load, I'd probably load pictures as I get them - i.e. upon completion of a project I'm proud of or want others to see I post single, or at most, a few pictures.

Ok with 60 % of responding members saying they have some interest, I have decided to go ahead and allow it.

How do you get it, just go to Request Services -> Request Gallery Bulk Upload.

After your account is setup, I will respond with necessary info. And you are ready to go.
