Was traveling west on Route 56 y'day PM when I went by a sign that said "Veneers" and another that said "We buy hardwood logs." A few seconds down the road here comes another sign - "European Woodworking Equipment."

This was not exactly in the middle of somewhere methinks. So what's up with that? I was in between Franklinton and Wilton. Anyone know the scoop behind these places?

Does the lack of a response mean nobody has been by these places, or that somehow this post has been missed by you all?? Surely someone in our lil commune knows these places and can tell us about them??

Jeff, not really all that close to you, but then mayhaps in your travels you have been by them?

I live about 5 miniuts from there. there is a mulch factory a HON furniture factory a veneer mill and a wholesale industrial machine supplier. there are some saw mills near there too but they cater to large lumber buyers [think trainloads] unfortunately most of these places dont want to do business with us hobby guys. I asked hon about hauling some of their scraps off but they didnt want anything to do with that. they haul their stuff to the dump. I happened upon the dump one day after they had emptied one of their dumpsters before the chipper got hold of it. got a whole pickup load of walnut shorts but by the time I unloaded and got back they had it all mulched.

I used to sell to EWM. Commercial equipment only (stuff Scott & Travis wouldn't even buy!). New & used; they refurb also. Owned by a German woman (Gertrude, I think) & her husband. The cattle farm you see is theirs also.

The signs "Veneer Plant" & "We buy hardwood logs" are at opposite ends of the property. Franklin Veneers IIRC. The veneer plant I tried to get work from when I was in hydraulics, but the owner wouldn't even talk to me, and seemed kinda cagey.

A couple miles more down the road toward Loiusburg is Katesville Pallet Mill. Might be able to get some cutoffs there.

Hey!!! What's that supposed to mean????

You're right though. I have checked their website out some in the past and all of their machinery is way specialized and way huge. Totally out of my league.
