Although I am not looking for anything it seems to me like the Raleigh Craigslist tools section is drying up a lot. The number of listings seems to have dropped drastically. With the state of the economy and housing declines I would have expected to see more listings.

Could be that less people are upgrading, which is a common reason to sell. The rising price of tools means that replacement cost is a lot more than the value of a used tool, so there are probably less people selling "for now" thinking they will just get another if they need it later. Could be random chance.

Travis,

I did think of one other possibility - maybe Doug has started getting up earlier than you.

Now that's the pot calling the kettle black I think the Shop Crawl is spreading new variants across the population, and it's taking its toll.

Travis I think the North Carolina Woodworker membership bought it all. Well all that was worth buying. But I still look several times a day on the chance......

I may have YTD record for total tonnage, but not for total purchases.

Maybe YTD tonnage, but in that category I still have to give the nod to Scott.

Oh yes, Scott has total tonnage, no doubt about that.

Travis, it's not dried up completely, look at this! a Woodtek 6*80" belt sander.

The junk is still there. Remember that very few "cabinet making" tools are use anymore. Cabinets arrive at the job in cardboard boxes from a factory in Kalamazoo, or some other exotic place. Small cabinet shops usually aren't leveraged, so they can hold on during slow times. Most here would rather die than sell tools off. It is a last resort. Due to uncertain economic conditions, many are delaying purchases. Rising energy prices are eating up a larger portion of the budget. To put it in simple words, "Things cost more, and there is less money to buy them with." Inflation is low due to the fact that energy and food aren't included in the base data. But the opposite is true for us.

Seen it, not interested. Second time being listed as well. If I get one I kind of would like it to be a bit bigger well not really, but I would like it to oscillate.

The price is a bit high to me with the stand it includes. PLUS, I can't be buying anything else for awhile.

Delaying purchases thereby not selling the old stuff makes sense. Hadn't thought of that. True, most cabinets get delivered in cardboard. Sad thought.

I have noticed that quite a few of the listings are relistings of things nobody wants. Also many of the people OVER value their items.

BTW: That edge sander has been listed a few times already.
