As someone who recycles a lot of wood I check my stock fairly carefully for errant bits of metal. Today I was hanging OSB on the shop walls and noticed a raised defect near my planned cut line in one panel. According to the label it was manufactured 12/13/07 in Roxboro, NC. My guess is that there is a machine there with a missing bolt and the QC people were thinking about the impending Christmas holiday. I probed the defect but found no metal. Moral of the story............check ALL materials, new or used , traditional wood or engineered wood products. Had the bolt still been there I am sure my new Dewalt blade on the circular saw would have made some interesting sounds.

And here I always was told that OSB doesn't hold fasteners very well...

That's screwy To think I was shocked to find a bullet in a board I bought

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Dave
I just read your old posts from 2005 about the bullet and the cut nail in the heart pine. I have quite a bit of heart pine in storage pending shop completion and I will definitely be checking it closely after our mutual experiences with foreign objects.

Glenn, Do you have a Little Wizard (or similar) metal detector to check your wood stash? If not, I have one you can borrow...

Thanks Randy, I do have a metal detector already. Most of the heart pine has a 30 year old finish on it so I will be sanding before I run it through the planer. Better to trash a $1 sanding belt than $50 knives. Finish gums blades anyway.

That is wicked, and scary! I hadn't ever thought about checking sheet goods.
