Looking for advice. I placed two orders with Mystic Hardwoods and they have apparently since gone out of business. They have my money (via PayPal and my checking account) and I have not received anything. I have left phone messages and sent e-mails but have not heard from them.

I filed a complaint with PayPal but PP would only pay if Mystic Hardwoods had money in their account.

I am out almost $200 and cannot afford to just throw that kind of money away. Mystic Hardwoods is not reachable through the BBB.

Any suggestions?

---Susan

Don't know anything about that company, but found this post in a blog online:

Mystic Hardwoods (link)

I'm sorry to say that it looks like Mystic Hardwoods was unable to stay in business. If you have followed this blog regularly you know I have tried to send them some business. I hoped they would be a good source for the scrolling community. I'm sure Billy and Desa did their best to make it work. hopefully they will do their best to make good on any outstanding orders. They have posted a telephone number for anyone with outstanding orders. 253-651-2607

If you can't get them at that phone number, I would probably go thru this guy who owns the blog and see if he can help.

Forget paypal, file a complaint with Visa or Mastercard, whichever you hopefully used.

Thanks for your replies. I had already done the Internet search and got what info I could. As I said in my post, PayPal deducted from my checking account, not a charge card.

From what I've heard, PayPal is darn near impossible to deal with. Unfortunately, if you don't get a response from Mystic, I'm afraid you're probably left holding the bag.

It's a good idea to use a CREDIT card (not debit) for purchases online or through merchants with whom you have little or no experience. That leaves you an escape hatch in that you can request a chargeback if things go sour.

Even if you do go with using a CC, you have to jump through a few hoops to get the chargeback permanently entered. I've used chargebacks three times in my life and the last time (for a Skybus ticket) they made me go through quite a bit more than I had to go through a number of years ago.

Thanks for reminding me to change my PayPal primary to my CC. I've used it from an old checking account for a long time, but times have changed. According to some of my friends who heavily use eBay and PP, PayPal is almost impossible to deal with as far as making good for services not provided.

Steve

Want to here Clark Howard go into a RANT, just call him and ask what the thinks of "Pray Pal." That is pray they do the right thing. (Reader's Digest condensed version, suitable for a family friendly site.)

Hopefully you'll figure this one out and they'll come clean.

Maybe I stand alone here, but PayPal has been EXCELLENT for me over the past MANY MANY years. I've used them 100's of times for payment (in fact, I usually push the idea when buying/selling something). Honestly, I don't think any of us should expect a company like PayPal, or any other, to have to cover for all of the crazies and cheapskates out there who take the money and run.

The problem here is not with PayPal ... it's with the company that went under (or took the money and ran, whichever it may be I dunno). So let's cut them some slack ... if anything I feel as though they protect more transactions than they unfairly (and by no choice of theirs) become a party in that go sour.

Sorry ... just my two cents ... can't stand to hear people bang on everything for nothing. AND I HOPE YOU GET EVERY PENNY BACK FROM THOSE GUYS ...

I have never had a problem with PayPal either as a buyer or seller.

This thread has served its purpose. If anyone finds out more information about contacting the folks from Mystic Hardwoods, please post it in a new thread. I'm going to close this one.
