I will start the ball rolling - I could do with some play time with a scroll saw and somebody that knows how to use it - Cathy, that sounds like you Unless there's somebody closer to me.

For my part, if anybody wants help with CAD stuff or wants a sketch turned into a rendering, give me a shout.

Well, I figured I would chim in a little bit here.

Things I can teach:

hand cut dovetails
machine cut dovetails
hand plane restoration
hand plane tune up
hand plane use
making your own Krenov plane
machine setup for most machines
turning - bowl, pen, peppermill, spindle, bottle stoppers
cabinetry
sculptural woodworking
Rocker and chair design
Inlay - free hand router
basic scrollsaw work
bent wood lamination

Things I want to learn:
Marquetry - veneer and scroll saw.

For folks wanting to learn and to come to hickory we can schedule some official classes. I can handle up to 4 people at a time in my shop.

Thanks,

John

I'm so new at this that I can't teach anybody on this site anything. I would, however, like to take up WoodGuy1975's offer for classes. I would be most interested in a class on hand cut dovetails and cabinetry at the moment. It was most gracious of you to offer.

I'd be glad to share the little knowledge I have about scroll saw stuff. And I'd love to come to sessions in Hickory.

That's quite a list WG!

I can duplicate some of those for people closer to me.

hand plane tune up
hand plane use
Hand cut M&T
Sharpening hand tools
Inlay - free hand router
bent wood lamination
Veneering
Joinery general
CAD
General construction and design.

Best bet for me would be on a one - one basis with a specific project in mind.

Things I want to learn:
Marquetry - veneer and scroll saw.

This is kind of related to this thread. Would it be difficult to list members (maybe it already exists) by county - or better yet show on a map (for those of us who have no idea where some of the counties are located)?

Woodguy,

I can help some on the cabinetry side if needed. I also built a compressor driven (venturi) vacuum press that can be used for veneering and /or vacuum clamping if anyone has an interest in those applications. I had a commission to build 90 adirondack chairs a couple of years ago and developed vacuum templates for pattern routing several key components.

Personally, I'd love to learn chair design, bent wood lamination and turning. My shop is just a garage but I'm about and hour and a half outside of Hickory and would be willing to make the trip there for a class or two.

Hey WoodGuy.. I'll be in town the weekend of Nov 12th. I'd love to take you up on some of your offers, well all of them, but I guess one at a time. I'd love to learn machine setup for a miter saw, specifically to cut a "perfect" 45. I want my mitres tight.. and they aren't exactally tight as I would like to see.

Steve, I'm actually a certified instructor for the advanced version of that class!
Along with "Intermediate hammer-thumb collisions".

WG and clowman,
I too would be interested in setting up a perfect mitre - beit on a table saw or mitre saw. I've had some frustrating moments with picture frames.

I like the map. I tried to add DH to it and didn't realize his user name is stoneskippers not stoneskipper. Is that why he doesn't show up? Or does he have to add him himself?

Can we modify our shout out?

I'd love to do something the 12th, but right now I'm scheduled to teach an advanced pen turning class for Kligspore's Woodworking shop that day. I'll double check with the shop to see if the class is going to really happen. That class is supposed to run from 10am-3pm.

If any NCwoodworker.net folks want to take the class I'll work it out to get you a discount on it. The class costs $50, but I'd be willing to forgo my fee for the class for you guys and the cost would just be $25. That will cover the materials and kits we'll use.

Thanks,

John
