I need a little help. About two years ago my teenage son wrecked the family van. Ever since then I have had a problem going out to pick up sheet goods for my ww'ing habit. If anyone in the Triangle area is ready to buy some sheet goods and would not mind helping me out with the pickup I would be grateful. I am only looking to buy a sheet of baltic birch and a sheet of 1/4" oak faced ply. Send me an email or a PM if you can help out. This can be anytime in the next several weeks - not a crisis on my end.

Much thanks one and all ...

Hi,
I don't have a van/pickup.
I guess it depends on where you get the plywood, if from Lowes/HD, you
can either ask them to cut it narrower (for free) so you can put it into your
car, or maybe an employee or 2 could give you a ride (given that your place
is not far away from the store).

HTH.

Some of the (BORG) stores limit you to one cut per sheet and charge for cuts after that.

Mark - If you do use 'the' BORG, the truck is 20 bucks plus any gas you use. That makes a sheet or two very expensive. I'm due for a load of plywood to make some shop cabinets, but it may be a month or so before I get into gear.

Thanks for the suggestions and the tips. I was thinking of shopping once again at Raleigh Hardwoods for my needs. They usually have a good selection of veneer faced sheets and Baltic birch.

I don't mind shopping at the BORG now and then, but it seems more hit or miss on what they carry in the way of cabinet grade sheet goods. I scored an amazing deal on some maple-faced 25mm 12-ply plywood about 5 years ago at around $20 a sheet - wish I could find that everyday!

Even if they slice a sheet in half I cannot fit it into my car - which is why I miss my van all the more. That and the tow hitch for my trailer are two sorely missed "tools" from my shop.

Ray - if you are going shopping in a month or so I can wait until then. Give me a jingle-jangle when you are ready to go shopping and let me know if I can tag along.

Mark,

I am off on MLK day. Call me on Monday morning and we will arrange a time to meet and I will get directions to your place. My cell phone is 919-641-5368. I am an early riser (5:00am) so you can call fairly early if you wish. I have never been to Raleigh Hardwoods so this gives me a learning opportunity.

What a terrific example of what this club is all about... or are we just a bunch who enable each others' WoodGuy Disease?

I want to publicly thank everyone who offered assistance to this freight-hauling challenged ww'er. I especially want to thank Dave Price for his generous help this morning. We had a bit of fun driving over to the new Woodcraft Supply here in Raleigh for a look-see before heading down to meet with Robin Jackson at his unfreaking believable warehouse in Fuquay. I knew what to expect, but I think poor Dave may need a few days to recover from the shock (he did make suitable notation of the phone and other vital info in his PDA!). I came away with four great sheets - three poplar faced and one oak-faced that are sweet enough to make a strong man weep.

I salute those in the fraternity whose support helped make my day ...

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

like i said, robin has quite an inventory of goods!!! i bet that beat a trip to raleigh harwoods for sure. robin showed me that poplar plywood, and it was smooth and NICE, like wise was his birch! cant beat that price neither!

today i planned my ash rough cut lumber and ripped my 6 sheets of ash plywood(from jackson) to width. was about enough work out side in an door less garage with ZERO heat! luckily i spent 23 of my 34 years in Buffalo!
