Question

I consider myself a fairly intelligent guy....most of the time.
For the life of me I can't figure out how to access the battery compartment on these HF calipers -

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=93293

For what I paid for them they might be disposable

Help, I'm feelin' really dumb here (so I am posting my stupidity for the whole world on the Internet )

Dave

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Dave:

I had a similar problem with a pair I bought at WC. The battery compartment is near the bottom of the head. I tslides out. I had to pry it with a very small screw driver. I went slow so as not to damage the unit. Luckily it worked.

Immediately to the right of the display is a series of ribs (the long ones). Press down with your thumb on the ribs and slide to the right.

Not that I'm so smart, I just went out to the shop and read the instruction sheets.

Bingo!!! George, that's it. I saw no seam or any indication that that was a separate piece or movable at all.
You are pretty smart....you saved the instructions and was able to find them again. I would like to think that I saved them, but I can't find them

THANKS!!!

Dave

There's a battery in there? I thought it contained a tidy rodent running around to spin the wheel to power the display.

I guess I better stop trying to stuff wheat pellets into the darn thing.

If it is any consolation Dave, I saved the directions by slipping them into the box with the calipers and then promptly misplaced the whole shebang for a month.

Exactly, I have trouble keeping the battery compartment lid on. It slides open every time I pick it up. Which is a good thing considering how fast that thing eats batteries.

Any good tips on where to find the batteries??? I think that Bruce might have mentioned some Dollar Store, or similar place

I haven't gone looking for them, yet, they might be very common.
