Asheville Hardware/Asheville Woodworking School will host two classes for those interested in learning this 3D design program. Google Sketchup is a free, downloadable program for designing furniture and more.

Clyde Bolin, retired engineer, will teach you to use Sketchup in this 3-hour class, Tuesday, June 17th, from 5:30-8:30 at 91 Biltmore Ave. in downtown Asheville. Cost: $30. Call 828 252 8088 to register. The first class will focus on table design. The next session is Tuesday, June 24th, 5:30-8:30, also $30, for those who are familiar with the program. It will focus on projects around the house such as built-ins.

Same here...It would be great to get some hands on with someone who knows how this works...but that is just too much of a drive...

It's not a class, but someone posted the following link on alt.binaries.pictures.woodworking to a website that contains some Sketchup tutorials.

Probably one of the best SketchUp sites for learning this great program is by the author of SketchUp for Dummies, Aidan Chopra. Another excellent site is the "Design, Click, Build" Blog on Fine Woodworking's site, featuring several very good SketchUp gurus, especially Dave Richards. A third excellent source is the Designs, Plans and Sketches Forum on Familywoodworking.org, an other friendly forum found on the web.
