Not horrible; that's what I came up with. I have the domain CarvedTones.com registered and will get a site up sometime fairly soon and will need a brand graphic. But more immediately, I want to use it for labels glued inside instruments and I have 3 very near completion.
I make wooden instruments, most of which feature carving as a large part of construction and/or decoration. |

I am more disappointed in the quality than the design. I just did that in Google Sketch Up. At some point, I should take the time to actually carve it, but oddly enough a rendered image will probably be easier to read than a photo of a real carving. I want it readable as it will be used for labels (the type you see when you look inside an acoustic guitar). But I do want it to be something I could carve to make a sign for Ren faires or whatever. |

I am pretty certain I want to go with letters, but I might take you up on the scroll help when I make a sign. I might go with a cheater's relief carving and glue thick flat letters onto a same wood backer and then countour them. |

PeteM and Mike Davis have graphic arts experience. I have experience in print, but lack design expertise
However, I would suggest using vector based software (Illustrator, Freehand) rather than bit-map software. Photoshop has both, but is more focused on bit-map.
HTH,
Roger

I was picturing the 'C' styled from the end of a gouge, and the 'T' styled out of an eighth note. But that's about all I've got... heavy creative thinking like that taps me out for a couple of days .
You might be after something totally different, but if you choose any or all of the above, you're welcome to it. I stake NO claim to it whatsoever. And I'm a Corel guy, so I can't be of much more help.
Good luck - I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

I could help but I don't have that typeface. I work with logos all day, every day and have for over thirty years. But most of my work is in textiles now.
Rick Doby is a full time pro with all the right stuff, I think he did the North Carolina Woodworker logo. rsdoby is his screen name if you want to PM him. He has lots of contacts in the small press world, if want some really nice engraved labels he can sure hook you up. |

I don't want to make it a competition and waste anyone's time.
BTW, I got that font as a free download here: http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=...t=Carved+Tones
On the 3rd of many pages of medieval fonts. Pretty cool site; you can enter the text you want and some keywords about the sort of font you want and see samples and then download the one you want. I just stopped at the first one that looked close to what I want.
Timeframe? Well, I hope to glue this top on later this week:
and I would rather not have to feed the label through those little bitty holes. .gif)
It would not bother me much to make one label with what I have now and others a little different, though. |
