She really like this one, It's on approx 40 acres has several out building and an old 2 story farm house. She loves old houses and I don;t mind working on them at all. But of course a guy needs a shop, right?

Here's the house complete with fence that needs to come down and some work. --->

and here is the shop Well it's actually a 8 stall dairy barn with cement floor, but I figured with some work it would make a neat little saw shed and lumber storage.

It's an estate from an old couple that passed on a few years ago...

Did she go shopping or buying...there's a huge difference. That looks like an awesome place. Your wife has taste in houses like mine does....one's that require a lot of work (it comes from her parents that are restoring a 200 yr. old Victorian in Wilmington's historical district).
I try to tell her that it is much easier when the kids are grown and able to put in their own sweat equity (I know I have)
Good luck with that Where's it located????

Should have mentioned it's in southern tip of Illinois just a little west of Shawnee National Forest.

You had mentioned the potential for a move, probably as long as 18 months ago, IIRC. guess that's getting closer, huh?

But, you can't move to another State. Lumber runs would be a thing of the past!!!!!!!!

Funny - I click on this thread and up pops google ads for barns What the beep - them google bots are going crazy

No worries guys still a little ways off yet, but getting much closer now. We have been talking about moving for quite some time. My wife's mom and dad are getting up in age, both of them are like mom and dad to me even if they are my in-laws. We just want to move close to them so we can help when needed. Family is most important and nothing comes before family.

Thanks

Looks like a great location with plenty of play room.
Our last property was something like that,up in Bucks County PA.
Up until buying the property I was decently self employed in custom woodworking. That changed upon buying our farm and orchard with barns and many outbuildings already outfitted for woodworking and livestock.
I spent 7 years taking care of the property and orchards. And of course gutting the house. And my self employed woodworking career fell to the wayside.
It worked out just perfectly though for us,we ended up having kids and I took care of them as well.
When we moved here to NC, 2 years ago(to the day, in fact) I was glad to be rid of the farm...and missed it at the same time.We now live in a community for our kids.It doesn't take 2 full days to mow the property any more. But we now have neighbors and kids playing on the block. And I have more time for the kids.Time for woodworking is still a luxury for me.But the move to NC was good for us.We have found our place.
But one thing is already clear. The day the last kid moves out we are back on the farm,in NC of course.
I wouldn't change a thing we've done so far.
And I would get the farm. And enjoy it.It's worth it.
Just be sure the change of state is good for you and your family's needs. You are thinking of your inlaws and that is great. We need to take care of our own family and seniors at all costs.
Good luck.

Looks like you're getting a diamond in the rough for a gem of a family. Best wishes on the move when it comes.

Jeff, I would really hate to see you go but if it happens it happens. As you said nothing comes before family.
