I was thinking that the folks on here from the Holly Springs/Fuquay/ Sanford general area might offer some recomendations on a good place to shop for glasses.
I don't need an optometrist, I have a prescription from the VA already, I just need some place to get lenses and a frame.......

I went to Wal Mart to get a reference price on the lenses alone($260) but I try very hard not to actually spend money there.

Well, I guess some folks might get good glasses from Wallyworld, but I won't ever go there again for them, I have a pair now that has been retried more times than I care to count, and still aren't right. I've never had that much trouble out of glasses, and the china frames don't feel right, too much fooling around with them to get my money back too.

I guess I look at things a little differently than most. If I would'nt purchase the glasses from walmart then it is not very fair to guage someone else's product based on walmarts price. Thats like saying their product is junk (which lots of it is ) but I should be able to purchase quality for the same price, not very fair to the other merchants in my opinion.

I don't know what's available in your area, but suggest Costco if you have one.

WOW! I was not aware that so many had problems with WalMart. My wife buys her contacts there for less than half the doc's charge. Her exam was $35 and she got a year's worth of contacts for $40.

She said the exam was very "basic" but thorough. Maybe glasses are another matter.

http://www.getbetterglasses.com/

Top right corner there are about 5 links to online retailers.

I'm not affiliated with them... just ran across them a few days ago.

When I mentioned not going to Walmart for glasses again, the problem with them isn't the price..the price is good, actually for my prescription and my insurance I still have to pay over $200 out of pocket, and I consider my vision plan pretty good. That being said, my actual problem is with the measuring of the lenses with the frames, they can't seem to get the lenses centered in front of my eyes, so I can only see out of one lens at a time, and have to keep moving back and forth to see out of both eyes, and that makes me dizzy. The fit and finish is poor in my opinion. The frames are not comfortable after extended wearing, and of all the styles of frames they have none have felt much different. Maybe it is just this walmart that is the problem, but all the trouble has forced me to go back to places I've been used to going and getting good service. Yes it costs a little more, but I CAN see vs. not being able to see. Contacts are a different thing, they don't measure you or fit you for contacts like glasses, they don't have to 'make' anything. If I could wear contacts, you'd bet I'd be going to some place like that to get a deal. I just don't feel that I got what I paid for at Walmart, price not even considered here.

Costco did a good job on my prescription sunglasses, and Consumer Report gave them good ratings last year.

Good Luck.

LOML has had vision problems since she was a kid ( had to wear a patch for a while as a child). She was recommended to see Dr Eggleston at the Clayton Walmart. She saw him, he figured out that she needed a special prism, they made the glasses. No headaches and clear vision for the first time in 35 years (since she was 6). We have no problem with Wallyworld.
