Question

Who said you can't keep busy after retirement? Here is my schedule this week alone (already occurred and still on the schedule)
Monday - Run granddaughter's school carpool, work (two days a week for pocket money that I don't have to account for to the LOML on how or where I spend it)
Tuesday - Take granddaughter to carpool pick-up point, work, 11AM local citizens advisory committee lunch meeting (Masonic orphanage here in Oxford), 6:30 masonic meeting in Louisburg.
Weds - Run the carpool, go to Greensboro to visit Mom and Dad in retirement community and to run the North Carolina Woodworker Express, on the way home got a phone call that daughter's car not running, please come by and fix it (I did), fix mother-in-law's hearing aid after I got home.
Thurs - granddaughter to carpool meeting place, M-I-L to dentist at 10:20, groceryshop, M-I-L to hair appointment at 1:15, take wife to Durham for a 3:45 root canal appointment, 7:00 police department advisory committee meeting.
Fri - run grandaughter's school carpool, rest of day scheduled for me (maybe some shop time???)
Sat - Going to Wilson for twin grandkid's (boy and girl) birthday party
Sun - Church and then a local Little Theatre production of Jesus Christ Super Star in the afternoon.

Where oh where is retirement shop time?

Next week, last week, two weeks from now, all about the same.

George

George,

I had the very same type of conversation with the LOML yesterday afternoon!!!

We have a friend who retired a couple of years ago and after 6 months he said he was so bored that he just had to find him a new job? Of course he isn't a woodworker!!!!

I too just seem to always have an immediate "chore", somewhere to run an errand, gathering project material or working on something in the "shop".

Never a dull moment around this household either!

Just great, ain't it! (Now that sounds like I am gloating.)

Wayne

Oh, by the way, I forgot to add the "To Do" list that doesn't show on the schedule:

We just had a new tile floor laid in one of the bathrooms (no I didn't tackle the tile) and I have to put in the baseboard and quarter-round. My daughter has a toilet problem to fix at her house, flapper mechanism broken and it is an old toilet that doesn't use flappers currently available at HD or Lowes, so I have to go to a plumbing supply house to try to find the correct thingie. Need a new light fixture in one of the storerooms off the carport. I have three commissions to do. Have a push mower that won't start, that I have to try to get running before spring. Need to build a set of wall cabinets for the shop to get 'stuff' off of the bench and tablesaw extension so I can actually use them.

Does it never end?

George

When asked how I like retirement, I often say that I'm thinking about going back to work to rest!!

I took an early bail out from the career world last March and I cannot see myself being bored any time in the forseeable future. I am currently without a LOML and if that changes I can see even more activities that will eat up post retirement time. Anyone have a single 50 sumpin sister ?

I used to work 40 hours a week, now I work 70.

About 3 years ago I decided I wanted a part time job. Had to quite after 3 weeks because I did not have time to work.

I retired at age 50. If I had waited until age 65 I would be dead long before I finish all the things that have to be done.

I'm with you, Brother.

Between shop work, church, consulting, hunting, small time farming, and family, I manage to stay more than busy. But it is nice to know I don't have to head to the airport every Monday, or be on a schedule. Sometimes, just to sit down for 30 minutes of quiet time is worth more than money. And to be able to go visit a friend like I did yesterday is also a great blessing.

Retirement isn't for everyone, but for me, it beats the heck out of some of the "alternatives! "

As I've said many times on here, I'm blessed.

I can early retire in seven years. If I'm offered one. But listening to everyone talk, I might have it easier if I just stay at work.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Michael,

If it is rest you want, keep working. I only wish my "need to's" were in NC. Nearest is Atlanta, fartherest is Seattle. Lots of miles with precious little sawdust time.

George - I was there tonight and watched dress rehearsal - my son has 4 parts, and I know the feeling it's been 3 months of practice and dad was taxi driver - your gonna love the play - the whole cast put on an awesome show. My favorite part both Harrod scenes
