The ants are what I call pi$$ ants, not the bigger black or red ones. I don't know what is taking a bite first but whatever it is, it doesn't finish the job. Anyone know what might be ruining my mater patch?????

But, they only nip at the ones very close to the ground. If the problem is up off the ground you'll be looking for some kind of worm or maybe small bird. |

I am also having a problem with fire ants. They do not seem to need any help getting started. |

if it's a split in the skin it's probably has something to do with the amount of water they're getting. When the ground goes from very dry to very wet they swell and bust. Mulch will help regulate the soil moisture better but they will still bust if the grond gets soaked. |

But I occasionally get split skin on tomatoes when it rains a lot.
Since FIL has an abundance of Silver Queen corn . . . man, I'm in heaven eating corn and maters everyday of the week
