Re: What is your secret to weight loss?

After weighing in at 250lbs at high school graduation, I'm down to 185 today. That's been 8 years. I've flirted with 200 again, especially right after I got married, I never had any food in my apartment. Wanna know the secret?

I started by working third shift, taking a full load of classes, playing racquetball 4 nights a week for 2 to 3 hours, and started eating only half of what was on my plate.

Now...I only eat till I get full, I cannot give up my full strength Mt. Dews, but I don't munch a lot and don't let myself get trapped in a candy bar binge.

Best of luck! It's takes a great amount of dedication. And as Jeremy put, a STRONG DECISION to get to it.

Re: What is your secret to weight loss?

For all of us who have enjoyed the sharing of this post, I say thanks. We all know what to do, it's just taking that first step that is the most difficult. I plan to come back to this post for a long time or at least until I lose that ten pounds. I have decided to go back on the south beach diet. It worked for me once, wish me luck. Please everyone, keep this post going, I have to believe it is helping many of us out here. We could post before and after pics to provide the proof. I will take my current pic now. Lorraine

Re: What is your secret to weight loss?

Lorraine,
When I made a post to your thread and said no Pictures it didn't happen. Pictures saved my life and carry a set in my truck to remember what happened to me. I saw what I was and then what I could be. My weight nearly cost me my life. But have put some pictures in my Gallery to show how important pictures are to give the incentative to loose. I was 400 pounds and lost 242 pounds in 1 year. But that was with the help of surgery, which I hope no one ever has to have. Hope these pictures will help. Terry

Re: What is your secret to weight loss?

So I started my diet again on the 19th of June and I and I am down 5 lbs. It sure feels good to start up again. My first goal it to get back to where I stopped last time. That is 25 lbs from now.

I too hope this thread continues, it is helpful for me too.

Re: What is your secret to weight loss?

I lost 30lbs by not drinking and 10lbs getting divorced.

Re: What is your secret to weight loss?

Tom, I also hope the thread continues for a while, it is helping me as well. I started mine today, just got back from the grocery store. Decided not to wait until after my birthday on saturday. I could be two pounds lighter by then. Lorraine

Re: What is your secret to weight loss?

I have to say that Atkins is my friend. After being on the road for a week, I always come back 5 pounds heavier purely because I am eating more with customers. I hit the Atkins for a couple of weeks and it's gone. Cutting back on the beer when I am away helps too. My fave diet is the DavidF Tuna Fish and guinness diet! lost 30 pounds with that some years back. Fish for the protein and Guinness for iron - the perfect meal in a glass.

Re: What is your secret to weight loss?

I am 6'2 1/2", 52, and 187lbs this morning on the heavier of the two scales we have (i.e. the scale that says I am heavier than the other scale). My peak was about 210 lbs. In my mid-40s, I got tired of not being about to do anything on weekends without spending several days recovering. I started doing 50 pushups and 50 situps three times a week. That helped with strength but weight was still 200+. I cut the cookies out of my lunch. That got me under 200 to about 195. Then I started having trouble with my knees and my balance. I added 50 deep knee bends and I am up to 150 toe lifts. I still had more around the middle than I wanted so I had LOML stop giving me chips for lunch. I eat a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, a sandwich and an apple for lunch, and a reasonable portion of whatever LOML gives me for dinner. I need to not eat again after dinner - that is my weakness. I would like to be 180-185lbs but as long as I'm under 190 I think I am OK.

I rarely eat sweets but I eat some trail mix between meals. The trail mix has a few M&Ms. If I eat an unusually big dinner, it does not stay with me long. I have a urgent bowl movement. I think the situps have my middle taut enough that it will not let my stomach expand so I can only hold so much. I've heard that the same kind of thing happens with stomach stapling.

Short version is 15 minutes of exercise 3 times a week (I walk for 30 minutes too sometimes but not as regularly) plus watching my calorie intake.

Jim

Re: What is your secret to weight loss?

Jim, it sounds like you have a plan that is working for you. We all suffer with, "what can I eat after dinner." Exercise is something I struggle with as I am sure most do. My husband and I can't walk because of his health problems so I find myself heading for the shop to work about six hours everyday. I lost weight the winter I made all the cherry cabinets for the kitchen, that was hard work. My current display cabinet seems to be taxing my brain not my body. I am on SouthBeach now, just started wednesday. We will see. Continued good luck. Lorraine
