Boss's Day is October 16, and I am "second-in command" in my dept at work. I've seen lots of great looking pens on North Carolina Woodworker, and am considering getting the SOB (swell ol' boss) a pen.

What is the price range for one of these works of art? I gotta know how hard to squeeze my 8 co-workers...

Hey Tom... I usually sell the ballpoints for about $35 at the galleries and $25 to coworkers/friends. That seems to be the going price I've seen in shops and on the web. Might want to talk to young Alex, he's a serious pen peddler these days .

Tom,

My son Alex has sold pens for between $30 for a more basic design slim line or European to upwards of $70 for higher end plating like titanium gold and platinum with a burl or other highly figured wood. You can see some of his work here:

Pen such as American Classic, or European, I usually ask $35.

If I add a wooden case and nameplate on the case, $45.

A Pen/Pencil set, with box and nameplate,$70.

If an exotic wood is used, I usually charge about $5 more.

Thanks David!

I agree, he really does have a good eye for pen design but he has had a lot of help from the members of this site as well.

Actually, he was supposed to get the goodwill lathe but he got a little impatient and I ended up buying him one for his birthday.

I couldn't agree more. And you are passing along a time honored skill down to your son. You should be extremely proud.

Hey Tom,

If you take a look at my website (below in signature) you will find a lot of pens at different price ranges. That should give you a good idea of what different ones sell for. For friends and coworkers, I usually take about 20% off of those prices. However, I also have some stuff at a retail store and they raised the prices about 30% and seem to sell them just fine too.

Hope that helps!
Joe
