Bas,

I know how to pronounce most people on this websites names because they are common to me, such as Dave, Jeff, Mike, Scott, Travis, Jeremy, etc.. But, your name pronunciation eludes me ( and I'd like to know it before I meet you), so hear are a few guesses, correct me if I'm wrong.

1) Baahs- pronounced like Ahnud the governator of California would

2) Bayess- pronounced in Southernese

3) Baws- Pronounced like a New Yorker

4) Bass- You know - like the fishing tournament

5) Base- like one of those baseball thingies

Or could I be completely off and the B is silent (just kidding)

Either way...I gots to know, and I'm sure that others do to. You know how people are, they'll start to refer to you as the Dutch guy with the funny name.

Well, thanks for humoring me, it's been a slow morning.

Jimmy

I'm not picky. Anything a step above "Hey you" will do

I've sort of Americanized (Anglified?) the pronunciation of my name, since there is no equivalent sound. It's like the "bas" in "basketball", but shorter, more clipped, as in "bat". And even that isn't quite accurate, the "a" is more closed. Here in the South, "bat" quickly turns into two syllables. Imagine being at the dentist, with two instruments and a tube in your mouth, and saying ahhhh". That kind of "a", but now pronounced with a crumpets-and-tea attitude.

(Sorry, I can just see people trying to go through all these steps and mouthing the sounds, images of fish flopping on land here with mouths opening and closing without any noise. Just remember the basketball part)

I've considered changing my name to "Bubba"

Anyway, THANKS for making the effort! And count yourself lucky my name doesn't include any guttural "g" or "ch" sounds. That'd be like applying a belt sander to your vocal chords.

That was awesome. Just for the record, I was pronouncing it Bas like the beer Bass. I guess that was pretty close.

Yup, pretty close Can't go wrong with beer in any case.

For the food-minded folks: Take pastrami, replace the "p" with a "b", and lose the "trami". That'll get you pretty close to the...hmmm hungry....
