ouch! Is the tree big enough to make any lumber out of it? or just a telephone pole?

Just put some duct tape on it, you will never know it happened.

That sucks (and not in a good way). Just another reason to dislike Pine.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

That sucks and sucks bad. I have been there myself in that same scenario. If your homeowners is like mine, you can expect ZERO or if you do get something then a courtesy rate hike with be forthcoming. Hopefully, the structural damage was minimal.

Travis, I have Farm Bureau; normally they are pretty good to deal with. Unfortunately I have high deductibles (keeps the policy cost down), so no matter what I'm going to take a hit.

At least if it had to happen, it happened now instead of 2 weeks from now when all of the insulation would have been sprayed.

You can't tell it from the photo, but about 1/4 of the main roof tin will require replacement, and about 1/2 of the porch. Plus a few rafters...

And what sucks even more, is that the tree fell right on my stockpile of uninstalled tin for the back of the house! ARGH!!!!!!

Pete - I will take very great pleasure in milling that pine tree... the base section is about 18" in diameter so I'll get some decent boards. I'll also have to figure out a suitable use for it - maybe an outhouse or something...

Scott, I feel your pain. Hate to see stuff like that happen. Had something similar with the ice storm in 2002. Big branch impaled itself in the roof...which was less than 2 months old.

Outhouse? That's too good for that tree. Chip it up and use it to cover up what's produced in the outhouse!

The bright side is that you have the equipment and the knowledge to remove that thing and make the repairs yourself. And that no one was hurt.

I feel your pain, as I had an oak fall on one corner of my shop last year. But, Tom and I had it repaired in a day or so. Life goes on!

I agree with Bas. Maybe you could make some roost poles for the chickens out of that pine!

I am sorry that you are having to deal with that Scott on what looks like a gorgeous renovation project. Most importantly, nobody was hurt. Good luck and be safe with the removal.

With a chainsaw like that, I don't think you'll have much of a problem getting rid of that tree. Pshh! Childs play.

Sorry for the setback, but yes, it could've been much worse.

We had the top of a neighbor's tree land in our yard... about 200 feet from anything, thankfully. It's some type of hardwood and looks like it will make a lot of nice turning blanks.

Time to buy a chainsaw...

Really hate to see stuff like that happen. Since that (evil) thing is a pine, I wouldn't even suggest you use it for fire wood since it'll coat the chimney.
