Well, the NC Coastal air show is in town this weekend at ILM. Luckily, my office/shop is located right across from the airport. I intended to go to the shop and work on my nightstand today, but I just couldn't stop watching the air show. My childhood dream was to be a fighter pilot (what happened? ) so seeing fighter jets flying around is a real treat for me. I didn't get to stay long enough to see the Thunderbirds(?), but I was VERY impressed by the F-14 (or F-15). This guy would take off and bank around and fly straight over the building with the after burners blazing and I literally ducked the first time. He couldn't have been more than a few hundred feet up. I just stood there, jaw laying on the pavement, looking like a kid in a candy store, or any of us in an exotic woods store. Anyway, I got absolutely no woodworking done today, but still had a great time. It's going on tomorrow too, so I'll probably try to catch the whole thing tomorrow (and hopefully make some progress on the nightstand). Here is a pic that I took with my cell phone. It seriously took me about ten attempts to actually get it in the frame. This guy was BOOKING IT.

Sorry I shot that one into the sun. Can you go blind by staring at the sun in a picture?

The shot into the sun is about the coolest pic you got. That must have been an awesome experience.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

I served 4 years in the AF at Seymour Johnson in Goldsboro working on F-15's. Still get a rush seeing them flying over!

Those guys are amazing ! I heard that they lose a couple of pilots a year on just practice maneuvers.

That's a USAF F-15 (probably from the team here at Seymour Johnson AFB). IMHO they put on a better show than the T-Birds, and are full time warrior pilots to boot. The T-Birds and Blue Angels (Navy) are full time demo teams and fly F-16s. The guys here at Seymour put together a team a couple years ago with the F-15s and it is voluntary extra duty.

The only jet more wicked is the F-22A.

Cool pics Trent. Fighters are so neet to watch in action. There was one spot on the Enterprise you could watch flight ops from and once in a while a couple of us would go there.

Somewhere I've got a few of F-14s launching and landing from when I was on the ship

Trent, that's some great shots. I was trying to make a flower bed in the back yard for LOML and couldn't get anything done for looking. Awesome!!!

Charles,

It was definitely a distraction wasn't it? I've noticed that you're about the only other active member from this area. If you ever want to get together for a beer sometime, just let me know.
