I have been doing some research for a friend who is interested in a small metal lathe, like the Unimat ones, although I'm not sure if it is still in production.
A search of Craigs List turned up more folks looking for a small lathe than selling any.
Does anyone have any advice or sources or manufacturers for something like this. We're not looking for anything too big or heavy duty, just a "fool around tinker" kinda machine.
Thanks!

Tom,

Consider this one http://www.grizzly.com/products/7-x-...al-Lathe/G8688, a 7" x 12" for < $600 shipped,

or this one http://www.grizzly.com/products/9-x-...ch-Lathe/G4000, a 9" x 19" for $919 shipped. I've looked at these on the floor at Grizzly and their fit and finish looked good, HTH.
