I can do you one better. Wife was pulling weeds next to the house today and there on the phone box was a copper head. When I pushed it off the phone box with the hoe it went straight down a hole. Just what I need 3 cats and a nest of copper heads.

Please don't tell me that ticks are a "Southern Thang"!! We had plenty of those little buggers back east!

Cats should be keeping the snakes at bay they must not be hungry enough.

My 12 year old Heinz 57 (dog) saved me from a copper head bite last year. He's like my shadow, follows me whenever he can and was laying down near me when I was running the mill. I Walked over to grab something and he went nutso when I got close to where the CH was. I looked down and there was a CH coiled, up just waiting for me to get in range. He gave the phrase mans best friend a whole new meaning. He obviously knew the CH was there but figured he wouldn't mess with it and sure didn't ant me to either... Dogs are cool except when someone else's wants to bite you.

BTW a .22 makes a better snake stick than a hoe, with the drought we had last year I expect snakes will be in supply this year, might be better to strap the 357 on when working outside

Ticks are serious stuff. Had a man in the town I used to live (Mint Hill) that lost a son to Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I try & have LOML check me for them every time I'm in the woods.

We are lucky, as we live in the middle of a forty thousand acre pine forest. Ticks and pine trees just go together. For the last four years, I have put tick medicine on my dogs year round. Today, I sprayed Seivin for the second time to control ticks. The Lone Star tick is now in this area, thanks to the deer population. The ordinary brown dog tick takes two to three days to become a blood swollen tick, but the star tick does so overnight. This is one of the reasons they are so numerous. Lighter fluid will kill one in less than thirty seconds. I pick one off, that is crawling, then hold her between my thumb and index finger. Put one drop of lighter fluid on my finger / thumb, and then wait thirty seconds. A well done tick! Unfortunately, the tiny deer ticks will be out in a couple of weeks. They are smaller than a grain of black pepper.

Had one attached to my fat belly three days ago, and man the bite still itches like nothing else. I sell and install deer fencing, I can almost guarantee that I have a tick (deer or dog) on me after measuring for or flagging out a fence run. No hazard pay for me

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Crap! I have been itching since I started reading this!
Good advice. Its never too early for vermin.
On the coldest day of the winter I went to my shop, its not heated except by the kerosene heater once I get in there.
I killed two black widow spiders one that literally was on the handle of the heater and the other down by the igniter. Guess they know where to go for heat! Amazing what that little propane torch I had handy does to one in a nano-second!
Hard to randomly spray for spiders. Unlike most bugs spiders have to be directly sprayed to kill them. Most bugs clean their feet with their mouths, thus poisoning themselves with any poison residue they walked through. Spiders don't do this. Unless you spray one, or stomp him (or burn him) they are hard to get rid of. Bug man suggested spray anyhow and hopefully kill their food supply and they'll just move along.
Yeah right... guess its a plan and it lets the bug man charge you lol...

I have to second the Copperhead report. I killed one out by the kids swing set Sunday. They were playing all around it and swinging right over it. Then my daughter saw it and came in the house to get me.

Still sluggish little Copperhead was not moving much or they would have been bitten.

What's good to spray the yard for ticks? I usually use malathion? Spelling, so far it's done a decent job. Guess I'll be spraying the next day it's not too windy.

Add one more confirmed tick to the list. Pulled one off my butt in the middle of the nite last week.

Don't worry, no pixs
