I had a problem with squirrels in my pecan trees for years. The blasted tree rats would grab the nuts, run to the ground then hold a paw up with the middle finger extended vertically at me. My daughter gave me a black cat they rescued from the pound, Ozzie. That cat chases the squirrels like a lion on the plains of the Serengeti. When he caught one, the battle really got interesting. Anyway, the game ended with Ozzie-1, Squirrel-0. Now I have a fat cat and fewer squirrels. Gotta make something for that cat.

Yeah, Bob! Now THERE's a use for a squirrel! Sounds good to me!

I'd like to have that gumbo recipe. I must be at least half "Cajun, cause I'll eat most anything, and I LIKE squirrel!

Dang tree rats....Only good squirrel is a dead one. I have had a squirrel chew up a garden hose and then take on the hose to my gas grill. I am lucky to be alive as I noticed it just before I hit the lighter. That weekend several became turtle food.

BTW dead squirrels do not float.

Ah squirrels. Memories of fried squirrel, with squirrel gravy. I've always found squirrel very rich andfilling, could only eat one leg. I figure it's because of the nut and grain diet. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

Saw a sqirrel miss a jump from the top of one tree to another once, dropped a soiid 50 feet minimum, bounced, then ran up a tree.

They tend to take a shortcut across my roof. Sound like a small horse. Not sure if they run because the roof is hot on their feet, or they just want to get out of the open fast. Possibly to get out of the open, one day I was in the shop and a hawk dropped down about 15 feet away, and nailed something on the ground; couldn't tell if it was a squirrel, mouse, or what. The only sound out of the whole thing was hearing it's wings flap once or twice when it took off. Makes me very happy hawks aren't really large.

We've got a number of owls around here, but I've only heard them, not seen any. During the day they'd be hard to see, sleeping, and too dark at night. The hawks make up for them tho. For anyone wanting owl box plans, remember, google is your friend. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...+OWL+BOX+PLANS Loads of birdhouse plans too, free. Free plans are good.

Jeff, if you're serious about one of them chasing after you, I'd shoot or trap it and get it over to animal control or other authorities to check it for rabies. A squirrel chasing a person just ain't normal, bird-flipping squirrels notwithstanding.

Destructive vermin in my yard, too. Dig stuff up, eat all the suet and wreck my hostas. I've probably whacked a dozen of 'em with my pellet gun and still they come...

Steve

So far haven't had ANY rabbits running across the roof, just the yard. Hope it stays that way.

Almost forgot. If you want to drive squirrels nuts, get a cheap lazer pointer, and use that on them. Don't point it in their eyes, that'd be cruel, and not needed. Just on the limb in front of them, then chase them around with it. Might be a bit hard to see the dot on a bright day. Works well with a dog or cat too, except they tend to try to catch the dot.
