So go ahead and shoot me and put me out of my pain. Like most folks involved in the financial investing world I have had my butt handed to me over the last year. Decided to just ignore things and have been putting the big stack of statements that come every month straight in the shredder. Had an email from my financial planner this morning. He wanted to know how I liked the check from Hartford. What check, oh, the one I shredded. Don't normally get a check from them so who knew. Seems as if there was a settlement on a lawsuit and they sent me a check. Wait a minute I shredded the thing. I hope it was the kind that is to much trouble to cash. I asked my planner to see what he could do about it and until he has a replacement check I really do not want to know the amount.

Oh well, I am well on the way to winning the IDIOT of the year award. Wait a minute, IDIOT is the reminder of how to orient the boards for a drawer. Only a woodworker.

I think I will forget to tell my wife about this.

Wow... that's the kind of thing that would happen to ME! I do get a little paranoid every time I start feeding stuff into the shredder... now you're gonna have us all double checking everything .

Seriously, I hope it's easily replaced... if your FP sent you an email about it, it's probably written for a little more than $2.31.

But then, a piece of paper accidentally fed into a power tool is always better than a piece of flesh...

This may be a blessing in disguise, you may have took that check and purchased some new fangled that would just clutter up your shop and then you would have wasted shop time posting a gloat on here. So look at the bright side, you saved tons of time.
OOPS!

I feel your pain, Keye. I've done equally idiotic things too. I hope you can get a replacement check.

I'm intrigued by your statement that the word IDIOT is a reminder for drawer assembly. I haven't heard that before. Care to elaborate??

Good Luck,

Good Luck,
Randy,

If I remember correctly it is something like Inside of Drawer Is the Outside of the Tree. This helps to force wood movement into the drawer whether than out?

Keye,

I hope you can get a replacement! I lost about 20% on my Roth IRA this year. Not sure how that fairs against the DJIA, which is my benchmark. But no checks to show for it.

My FP sent me an email and said not to worry. The check was only 5.35.

He then waited about an hour and sent me another email to tell me he forgot to tell me about the second check. Said since I did not want to know how much it was he would just give me a hint. He wanted to know if I remembered my wife talking about taking a cruise the last time we all got together. I may have to hurt him.

To relieve the pain I went and bought the wood for my next project. Nothing exotic, just 150 bf of white oak.

My FP did tell me he would take care of obtaining the replacement checks but not to plan the cruise anytime soon. It will probably take a while.

Bet that made you feel better knowing now that it was not even enough to buy gas mow the yard with.

Tracy, you must not have read the whole post. There were two checks. The second one he just gave me a hint as to how much it was. It will cover the cruise my wife wants to take.

Just DON'T mention it to the LOYL. Don't want to get those wheels turning too soon. Nice job going ahead and getting 150 bf of white oak out of it before the news is broken though. Stealthy........

Cool,

Speed reading is not my specialty, sorry for the mix-up, congratulations, where ya cruising to?
I am used to getting the checks in the mail that if you sign them it enrolls you in something that takes more of your money.

I have been insured with Hartford for home and auto for not quite a year. They are constantly trying to get me to go for health and life which I have through other sources. I almost shredded my settlement check thinking it was another solicitation letter, that would have been a $52.00 mistake!!

I had a similar circumstance happen to me. I stuff all of my statements in a file drawer without opening them. One day my wife was looking for some tax information and went through those statements. She found a check that had been sent to me, and I didn't realize it. She kept it , and now diligently opens all my financial statements looking for found money....you might have been better off shredding it

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

I don't have enough money to have an FP.
