I don't know if these pictures do any Justice but it sure is smoky in Greenville! I sure do hope they get those fires in Washington put out soon!

Anyone from that area have any good news about the Fires?

No fires here, but the wind changed today and is coming out of the N-NE blowing the smoke here and to Greenville from around Lake Phelps in Washington Co.* - caugh, caugh, caugh . Hopefully the wind will shift again as forecast to E. and blow the smoke away. Watch out, Williamston.

The smoke in downtown Washington. For awhile the visibility was less than 1 mile: (EDIT: instead of a pic it appears I copied a link to an ever-changing pic- if you view it later it may look different)

E. NC towns and counties are a bit odd- Greenville is in Pitt County not in neighboring Greene County. Washington is in Beaufort County, not in neighboring Washington County. Beaufort is in Carteret County, not even close to Beaufort County. Who can figure????

And Henderson is not in Henderson County, but Hendersonville is -- Henderson is in Vance County and is named after Zebulon Vance (Civil War General, NC Governor and US Senator), who was born in Buncombe County. Then again, Zebulon is not in either Buncombe or Vance County, but in Wake County (as is Wake Forest, but not Wake Forest University) ... did I smell someone burning ???

...... and the town of Kershaw is actually in Lancster county, SC & not Kershaw county. It seems the surveyors discovered a barrel of whiskey while surveying the county line........ and the rest is history!

LOML and I were at my family's place in Kitty Hawk this weekend and it got real smokey both Friday & Saturday nights. Got bad enough to wake us up around 3am to make sure it wasn't the cottage.

Hmmm, it appears that the pic of downtown Washington in my earlier post is a dynamic link and continues to change at some interval. So you all can see what is happening in "happening" Washington.

And Wake Forest University used to be in Wake Forest until Winston-Salem bought it and moved it to W-S.

Stepped out the door this morning to get the paper and was greeted by an acrid smell and a haze. The smoke from Washington County has now reached Oxford.

I was sitting outside late yesterday evening and could begin to smell the smoke. I got up early this morning, sitting outside with coffee and could see and smell the stuff...I am in southeast durham county...
This morning got to work in Raleigh, out at NCSU, man it smells .....definitely not good out if you have breathing/health issues...

Yesterday and today you can smell it inside our building, at work, in Henderson. It was bothering me last night cutting grass in Roanoke Rapids. Headed to Greenville tonight, hope the wind changes before I get there.
