I received a huge order for pens today through my woodArtz web page that smells like a scam. The email was poorly written, but the gist was that they wanted a lot of pens for orphans and would pay with a credit card. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has come across an email request similar to this. If it is for real, I'll need lots of help .

Send them a invoice through pay pal add something like allow 4 ~ 6 weeks for delivery, see if they pay if they do, then get busy...

Bob,

Maybe I'm paranoid... and maybe those paranoids really are out to get me... but the order you described does not pass the smell test. It screams "SCAM".

Yah...watch out. The classic scam that I have been hearing about, lately, is that they will overpay you. Then, they may have someone come and pick up the pens in person and ask you to pay that person the difference. Lots of luck!

Bob
I have seen your pens and they are something to be admired,as all your work is.
And it does smell of scam.
And I don't want to go shooting my mouth off....
But is it me,or am I an unemotional cold fella?
But do pens sound like the most useful gift for unfortunate orphans?
Or am I out of touch?

I agree with Jak. Why would you put a pen in their hand? They need cloths on their backs and shoes on their feet. Not to mention FOOD in their stomachs. I guess they could at least us the pen to make a list of the things they do need.

I can forgive the misspelled word. But if there was no mention of a specific orphanage, with a contact number (that you call and verify is working), you are wise to regard it as a scam.

Easy. Get the money via PayPal, like mentioned above, or use a middle-man holding company for the funds (so they pay, the company then holds the money until you finish & deliver)

I've heard of this one too. They overpay... but with bad paper. They offer a bogus check and ask for change.

Bob,
You can require a letter of credit from a bank prior to processing the order. That will weed out the scammers. We use LOCs for all foreign first time orders for our equipment. This puts the onus on the purchaser and the bank. You get paid.

Definitely a scam we get that all the time at work. We even had a guy order $ 10,000 worth of Moisture Meters, pay with a CC. When he got notice they were in Customs in Thailand, he canceled the CC charges.

Luckily FedEx redirected the shipment, but we were out their charges. Better a few hunder than a few thousand though!

I think Chris nailed it. They'll overpay, ask for the overpayment balance, pick up the order, and be long gone by the time the credit card payment goes belly up. Here's some of the text from the email:

"...this order will be picked at your location.kindly get back to me with the total cost of my order so that l can make payment with my credit card..."

The interesting thing is "my location" is not known by just visiting my website. I'm officially ignoring the email at this point. I hope this helps anyone else that comes across this type of thing. Thanks guys.

IMHO, if it's legit, they'll send a follow-up email, asking again where you are on this. I've never known scammers to do that, unless it's sent from a different email address.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.
