Hi guys,
I just thought I'd pass my experience on to hopefully help someone else out. I get my Earthlink internet access through Time Warner. About 4-6 months ago my connection got really slow. I contacted Earthlink, they said call TW. TW said call Earthlink... After a few rounds of that, a friend of mine at work said same thing happened to him and he had TW replace his cable modem. So I called TW and had them replace the modem (free of charge) and bingo! My speed jumped back up to normal - around 4.5 Mbps!

HTH!

The same happened to me several years ago. I guess everything gets old and slow eventually.

Careful, Tracey... you are only 3 years my junior or I would be less (but still somewhat) polite. I got a big one staring me in the face right after Christmas. I'm thinking finishing a 10K wth the running pack (in the top third or so) would be an awesome way to mark that. Unfortunately, it hasn't gone far past the thinking stage yet...

Old and slow is better than some of the other alternatives I could think of. 10K sounds like a lot of training and little time for making sawdust. Sure you want to do that?

I am in the process of trying to upgrade my Linux. Two days ago the speed was around 400 kbs. Yesterday it started at 26 kbs (I decided to abort and wait a bit) and 2 hours later was up to 600. Today I was up to 1500 kbs for a little bit amd then it dropped down to 400 again.

The file I was downloading was 3.2 gig.

Bottom line, I don't think its the modem. Me thinks its TW Broadband.

I test my connection rather regularly using http://www.bandwidth.com
recent speeds there, on TW (but paying for Earthlink) on a 5 mB connection have ranged up to 5026. but when I initially got the service, there were numerous problems with it, connections were spotty, speed was horrible. it took a few calls, and testing a few of TW's nodes, to narrow down to the problem. turns out they changed out several of the routers, nodes, switches, and whatever else about three links up from my place. Call. put em to work, and results can be great!

I just tried mine - TW in Cary. 4387k down, but "only" 233k up. Standard consumer grade service.
