Name: MICHAEL City: Salisbury State: NC County: Rowan Join Date: Mar 2006 Avg Visit Freq/Week = 0.66 over 180 days | I know this is a ww website, but i love to fish as well. I try to crappie fish, but havent had much luck. Found out that since i am disabled i can get my lifetime fishing license for 10.00 for freshwater and 10.00 for salt water.
I have been using minnows, and some jigs laying around the shop. (they really didnt like the circle cutting jig) haha
does anyone know any secrets when it comes to fishing? Found something on the net, but they want to charge. from what i figured out they tell you something to put in the water to attract the feeder fish, hence bringing in the bigger fish.
All help will be appreciated..
My thoughts are with NEWTOWOOD i pray he is doing better. |

I myself am only proficient at drowning worms, not catching fish. Although I have been fishing with some friends and they told me that it's not the fish you catch but the good time you had doing it.
I would have prefered to cactch fish.
sorry I can't help more. |

I don't know the first thing about fishing... sorry I can't help you there. When you mentioned in you post, that there are people who have the secret to successful fishing... but they want you to pay for that secret, some alarm bells went off. I started thinking about the late night infomercials about untold wealth in real estate, perfect bodies with the ultimate secret to weight loss and muscle gain, and so many others. I'm sure I'm preaching the obvious, but do be careful about sending anybody any money. I think I'd go to the library first.

to enhance any ecosystem the place to start is at the botom of the food chain, the top of the food chain will take care of it's self after that.
on thing lacking in many of the ponds in my area is cover, a place for bait fish to hide. this can be enhaced with brush piles, or beter yet (but seldom used) rock piles. i have also seen where the state has cut down large trees and let them fall into the water, they lag bolt a short peice of chain to the tree and the stump afterwar to make sure the tree dosn't float away during high water.
a fish feeder is another option if you have exclusive right to fish a pond. fish food can be bought at most farm suply stores (if they don't cary it they can order it). care must be taken not ot over harvest at a fish feeder. after a while the fish will tune in on the vibration and they can realy over consentrate the fish. someone at he north carolina wildlife comsion could probaly give you a ratio of how much fish you can safely harvest to how much feed is given.
can't find the fish....google them. this is a tecnque i use a lot in my hobbly of wildlife photography. use google earth to find the smaller out of the way ponds that you never knew were there. your county may also have a "gis mapping" for thier tax dept. these are often higher resolution photo's and you will have the ability to find out who owns them.
people are often reluctant to alow people to fish on thier property due to the slobs that leave fishing line, beer cans, and bait containers after they leave. you are more apto to get permision to fish a pond that is out of site from the road than on a pond that every body driving by will see you. if people see you out there others will ask permision, and sooner or later the place gets trashed up and the no tresspasing signs go up.
oh yea...and close the gate so the cows don't get out |

Anyway FGD is a like WDG. You start with a simple rod and reel. Then come the first tackle box and then the second rod and reel and second tackle box. Then the $40,000 bass boat. Once you get serious you can't have enough rod, lures, etc.
I do fish. I even fished tournaments for about 15 years up North and down here. The secret to success is practice, practice, practice, and more practice. See if you can find someone near you to take you out to some local lakes.
Most of all have fun. Enjoy the time outside. Watch the birds, the sky, the sunset and all that God has provided. If you catch fish consider it a bonus.

Here is my favorite forum for local (NC) info: http://www.wmi.org/bassfish/reports/northcar/index.html
Pretty active and friendly.
I have fished for crappie many times with varying degrees of success. The best places to catch them are in the worst places for boats and hooks - in drowned timber. Live minnows are good, but I usually use a small tube bait, light line and limber rod. My favorite color is white, but I carry a few colors (switching tubes gives you something to do when they aren't biting ). Drop it down, jig it up and down and keep varying depths until you start catching fish.
My preference is to fish for bass with plastic worms. I am primarily a catch and release fisherman (and I have been perfecting a "remote release system" to do even less damage ) and target a few big fish, but I know how to catch a bunch of little ones.
I was grooming my future bass fishing buddy over the weekend down at Camp Seagull:
This is the trouble with a "guy's only" weekend. My wife or daughters would have told me to kneel next to him, suck my gut in and look toward the camera... .gif) |

There are no secrets to fishing, but there may be secrets to catching fish
Whatever, it is a great way to "commune" with nature and enjoy the peace and beauty of the outdoors. Like woodworking, it's basically a solitary endeavor. However, success can bring pure joy as evidenced by LOML catching her first "legal" red drum on the Outerbanks.
