I guess the term "you suck" does show a lot of familiarity that might not be there in some cases, but it has never offended me. When I first saw it used on Woodnet, I thought, "wow, that's crazy," but then I learned that it was just symbolism and was just a way to congratulate someone on a cool gloat. I guess I hear language all day long that is MUCH more offensive than that. When my friends and I get together, you would think we were a group of sailors sitting at a bar in their port of call. And everyone around us usually speaks very similar to that.
I guess, I'm more likely to say you suck to people that I am more familiar with on here. However, I have opted to just congratulate people a few times if I didn't know them that well. I'll try and note who in this thread prefers rock, but if I do dish out some suckage, please know that I mean no harm, I'm just congratulating you on a great score. YOU GUYS ROCK!

I have never felt comfortable telling anyone that they su** (meant in a nice way). I'm not trying to be politically correct, am just more comfortable using "you rock" or "that rocks". Just my opinion.
I vote for ROCK |

You couldn't ever tell another guy you were happy for him - major code violation! You insult him, question his ancestry and/or anatomical correctness and try to be obvious that you are kidding. Sometimes a little blood was spilled when you came across as being a little too sincere. It's hard to shake the old habits off even if we have new attitudes and philosophies. We're not afraid to publicly spread a little Papa Smurf love when Steve does things to improve the already awesome site, but we still take our little jabs at each other every now and then. I am okay with either, but my personal preference is to just congratulate people these days. |
