for as long as i have been member....post gloat w/ picture, everyone gives em the YOU SUCK.......Personally i think it sounds good eitherway. its just two different ways to say the same thing.

people down here where i live if they see a passiing car has someone they know in it, espescially drivin, FREEBIRD BABY. Now we all have a different understanding of our relationships. I laugh everytime, except when I'm Wrong and say its an old lady driving similar car.

P.S. My little girl finally decided to wake up, she and I were suppose to be at the lake at round say 7 - 7:30. Gonna catch me some good crappie.

I'm not really sure where you were headed with your post, but I'll put in my $.02 worth. In keeping this a family friendly site, I think "you rock" sounds much better than "you suck". Realize that we have all ages of members and both men and women. I have never felt comfortable telling anyone that they su** (meant in a nice way). I'm not trying to be politically correct, am just more comfortable using "you rock" or "that rocks". Just my opinion.

I have watched several threads that headed south so to speak with the use of you suck. I will use you rock at all times to congratulate someone on a tool purchase or such other gloats. I just find it much more Family oriented as Cathy pointed out. I challenge you to join me! Just a personal preference to me.

I've often worried that the "courser" version of congratulations might give someone the wrong impression. I admit that when I first joined, I was like... "what did they just say?" . I don't feel comfortable using it, but don't care if others do. I'm certainly no angel.... Now, let's Rock!

I prefer "You Rock". I've never been comfortable with saying it on here and I usually just congratulate the person making the gloat. From a young age my Mom would scold me for using the word "suck". She's been gone since '96 and I still hear her everytime I hear the word or see it.

You Rock is my preference. JMTCW

I wonder who is listening. Are there any younger folks reading these posts? Oh, yes they do. Whatever language I use, I have, by default, authorized for the children. How should a 7 year old boy tell his mom he doesn't like the spinach casserole? What should your 4 year old daughter tell her big brother who just took the last chocolate chop cookie? If it isn't OK to say to the pastor when he or she is visiting, then it's not OK sot say.

This thread rocks!!!

Makes me think of a sign I saw in a restaurant somewhere "The language you use at church will do just fine here".

Cathy,

I think that frames it perfectly. Thank you

I'm OK either way.
My interpretation of "You Suck" is from the common way to express envy in an off hand way to someone who does or has something you would like as in: "It must really suck to be the person who got the 16 in. planer from Tom Hintz this morning."

I agree totally. IMHO use of "you suck" as complimentary way of recognizing someone's recent acquisition or achievement, implies a certain level of friendship and familiarization. That might not be apparent to those on the "outside" looking in. It sure got my attention the first time I saw it, and I too, am not the most PC person.

However that being said, I guess I fall in line with the sentiments expressed by Jimmyc & Tarhead.

All I'm saying is that you change some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can't change all of the people all of the time.

A wise man once told me" It is what it is.", don't let it get you stressed.

It's all about honesty. If someone scores a deal on something I want myself, like a big 20" planer for ten bucks, my reaction is "You Suck!". As in: "I am green with envy, but I'm still happier that you got it than I feel jealous".

Of course, until recently, I wanted EVERYTHING, so I thought everyone sucked But as Doug put it, you can't have everything - no room to put it! My shop is full enough now I can afford to be picky.

"You Rock" is probably nicer. So from now on, I think I'll use that. Unless it's something that's in the "top 3" of tools I want to buy next. Then consuckulations will still be in order.

I guess we should use which ever suits us. (individually) I see this site as a group of friends; and being friends you are welcome to use any tool I have. so i think IT ROCKS when i get something someone else can use also.
