I was desperate... had nothing but dull planer knifes, and Lowes don't carry mine anymore...

After I got back from an exciting trip to Lowes, I got the dead space between my ears working - dangerous I know, yada yada yada... Whipped out the wifes diamond knife sharpener out of the kitchen. After about 25 passes per side through the knife sharpener they were good and sharp. I'm glad I decided to wear good leather gloves, them planer knifes were just as sharp if not sharper than new, they would have cut me all to pieces had it not been for the gloves. Installed the now sharp knifes back in the planer and they worked like a champ. just thought I would pass it along, it's not something I plan on doing from here on out but, worked well in a pinch.

Thanks

Adapt and Overcome! That is the woodworker's way. Do the best you can with what you have. I am glad you had the gloves.

So, I take it these knives are disposable, and not meant to be sharpened? What "diamond" sharpener did you use. I'm ashamed to say that I have NOTHING in my house to sharpen ordinary kitchen knives....

Bas, it's one of these ---> http://www.amazon.com/Chefs-Choice-1.../dp/B00004S1B9

I can not stand to work with dull knifes / blades / tools / etc... to me using a dull tool is like trying to draw with a broken pencil, this includes kitchen knifes.

I recently purchased a machine similar to this at the BORG:
http://www.amazon.com/Plasplugs-DSF-...367757&sr=1-17

The model I purchased only had 3 modules (no chisel module) I was only looking for drill bit and knife sharpening anyway but this also has a third module for mower blades etc. No review yet since I have not tried it but it was yellow tagged and highly discounted Can't resist those bargains!! Apparently Plasplugs makes several similar machines, Plasplugs are the ceramic tile spacer, wall anchor plug people
