A mini lathe takes up very little space. A small pen turning set of chisels can be stored underneath it. The rest of the space will be taken up with the CA bottles
The real storage challenge is the pen blanks that you can't get rid of. Every figured off-cut becomes a highly coveted pen blank. I have a rolling Craftsman mechanics tool chest that I keep my pen turning stuff in. 80% of it is storage of pen blanks. I have two drawers that are for kits, bushings, and all the other stuff that is needed. If I had a mini lathe it would be able to sit on top of it.

Dave

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

I use the full size HF set and a full size Delta set. The HF set really isn't as big as a set of Sorbys or others but it certainly is not a 'mini-set'.

Phillip A two car garage should be about right.
Trust me, you can fill up as much or as little space as you want. Like Dave said, kits, tools and lathe take little space. 500-600 pen blanks is a different story, especially if you want them organized. Not only does every figured off cut that is blank size become prized, if you get into segment work every teeny scrap is useful. You will never throw away another piece of scrap wood........ | Carefull.......The slope is steep and very slippery | |
As for large vs. mini tools, it's personal preference. I use full size.

In my case my shop is my garage which also holds all my tools, the wife's car, bikes, mower and other stuff. I have my mini sitting on top of a mobile base. One item to consider is will you every put a bed extension on your lathe.
Here is a design you might want to use or design your own. http://www.shopnotes.com/plans/mini-lathe-stand/

Rob, I use my full size set. I find that I get better results, not as many high and low valleys in the piece when I use a little large gouge or skew.
I am getting better with the skew and use it for most everything after I round everything off. |

Spindle gouge for roughing and shaping, skew for final shaping and smoothing, and the parting tool for center bands. If you're ever over near Hillsborough, pass by and I'll show you my setup.
