It's been real nice not having all those telemarketers call the house this weekend, I mean, real nice...

My understanding is a couple of sea bottom Internet cables were cut and has brought the Internet in india to a crawl, many of the support telemarketing centers have had to close up shop till they are repaired. Ahhh that's too bad, isn't it

Anyways enjoy your freedom from telemarketers while it lasts, you know once that cables are repaired they will be back with a vengeance trying to meet quota.

Jeff,

I'm with you... telemarketing can be a bit of a plague. Here's a helpful website. http://www.nocallsnc.com/ If you tell one of these outfits not to call you, and they do, or if they call when you are on the do not call list, or if they go a bit too far when they call, click on the complain link half way down the left side of the web page. The folks in the complaint office are very helpful and really do go after telemarketers.

Went to a local little theater production this afternoon. There was one guy in it who was doing his debut in theater. He did a really great job Jeff.. Oh, I forgot to say it was Jeff's son.

That's good to hear. I rarely get telemarketers call since I've registered my phone number with the Fed. Do Not Call list. Go to either www.donotcall.gov or call 1-888-382-1222. If you're calling you'll have to use each of the phones you want registered.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Jeff,

If you have not done the Do Not Call thing it is great. Another great thing to do is the Opt Out for preapproved credit card you get in the mail.

You can do that by dialing 1-888-5-OPT-OUT.

This is straight from Clark Howards web site:
The telephone number, 1-888-5-OPT-OUT, was set up to establish a single point of contact for consumers to call to request that all three major U.S. credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion) remove consumers' information from the marketing lists and pre-approved credit offer lists sold to third parties. By entering your information, you prevent the credit bureaus from releasing your personal information to credit card companies. As a result, you should receive fewer credit card solicitations in the mail.

Calling the number in the e-mail will not stop your bank, credit union, brokerage company, etc. from selling your information. For that, you must respond individually to the "Privacy Policy" statements you received from each financial institution in the mail. Or, you must call the institution or company yourself.

Also, it is ok to enter yout Social Security number when prompted for it. The system needs that to verify your identity and remove you from the lists.

Hey George - That's my youngest son, he's really enjoying theater, I'm sure this won't be his last one.

Thanks

I saw a few weeks ago that the fed gov had made your entry on the do-not-call list permanent. The NC registry was supposed to expire in 7 years.

Keep in mind that business that you do business with (mortgage company, banks. etc) can still call and offer you deals on their latest promotions. To stop that, just ask the callers not to cal you with those offers again.

Charity and research groups can still call, though. Just be sure you know how much the charity actually gets, ans what the telemarketer pockets. I believe a list of those charities registered in NC are available from the NC Attorney General's office.

I signed up for the do-not-call list when it came out and the results were awesome. News & Observer ran an article last week about folks receiving telemarketing calls at their workplace Apparently, if they get your work number they can call it. And, of course, many business don't want to put their number on do-not-call list.

Thanks for the tip/reminder on the opt out number, Wayne

Roger
