CRS strikes again! It was Arthur Carpenter. He was around 70 and owned some of the "family" land around Carpenter. Sold 100 or so acres of it for the I540 exchange.

Guess "character" was part of the gene pool though. To say Arthur was unique was an understatement.

Apologetically,
Roger

You want old? It's at least worth one trip to the "Olde Time Thresher's Reunion" in Denton, NC. I watched a tree trunk get turned into veneer the old way, with one of those "one -stroke" engines...and of course, watching "Lefty" run the lumber mill was pretty interesting. They generally have some sort of outdoor junque "old tool" sale going on, too.

That store in Vass..is that the one with the train track along the ceiling? I caught some "North Carolina" show on PBS that featured an old hardware store (size 60 bib overalls in stock!) but I can't recall where it was.

Arthur Lee was VERY close to my FIL. They became fast friends as my in laws lived just around the corner. You're right about Arthur Lee being a character. FYI, did you know that Cary has incorporated just about all of the land between Carpenter/55 & Chatham county line? In laws, who live ~2 miles from junction of Durham/Wake/Chatham counties, and just 2 miles or so from Carpenter store, are now in Cary!

[quote][are now in Cary!/QUOTE]

Thats strange stuff. I know the auto repair business at the corner of Highhouse and Davis used to be considered Morrisville, but, somehow, Cary absconded with it......

If that's true this is indeed a sad day for the Deese household!
