I went to John's house and bought his DeWalt 733 planer and then went to Klingspors (John had already left his house for Klingspors when I got there) and got there when everyone was cleaning up and getting ready to go home, Me sad, me not early .
Well I looked around for some things for the Cedar chest and bought 4' of Cherry for the inside rail for the small box to ride along and to strengthen it a little and some birch dowels for $3.99 and of course the 10% off... Well I got my receipt and it said $5.00 for the Birch dowels, I said thats not right there $3.99 plus 10% off = $3.59.....Well there system was having some problems and Paul (Klingspor worker) asked whats the matter and the teller ( sorry didn't catch his name) said it won't ring up for $3.99 and give the 10% discount. Paul said "Well he got a free work bench, so don't give him the discount" and then walked away. I was a little dumbfouded.....I mean I spent close to $3500 dollars that day I bought the PM2000 and Paul is the one who loaded my truck, and he's mad at me? I did tell him he gave me the wood work bench and that I would have brough it back, had I lived closer( I live in Goldsboro and work for the military on F-15s don't have a bunch of free time), and if the work bench hadn't fallen over on a rock and dented the top. And in the instructions it say's to seal it right away after removing the plastic which I didn't read until 3 week later. Yup the work bench did warp a little. Anyway I am just a little dumbfounded, sad, frustrated that he said that, and wonder if I should buy from Klingspors again? I mean I really liked that place and could see myself spending another $2000-$3000 in the future, and also just looking at all the amazing woodworking skills...I only have 2 years left in the military and am planning on staying in NC and going to klingspors more often when I got out, Now after having my feelings hurt, I'm not sure what to do.
I'm sure I will get over it.... I just need to vent. I have enjoyed everyones friendship, conversations, and knowledge and will continue to enjoy it.
Have a great day.
Sincerely,
Matthew |

You bought a workbench, let it fall over and hit a rock, dented the top, then unwrapped it and let it sit without any finish for three weeks?
And Klingspor gave you a new one?
That sounds like outstanding customer service beyond any expectations to me.
Any time I've bought something and fouled it up myself I had to live with it or replace it out of my own pocket.
Oh, and thanks for keeping our fighter pilots in the air. |

All the folks at Klingspor have always treated me fairly, I've gotten some great prices on some of my equipment and their advice and service has been outstanding.
Perhaps this was just a case of wrong place, wrong time. Yesterday was an extremely long and busy day. I imagine the staff must have been there since 7, organizing demonstrations, running the competition, managing all the people coming in and out, giving away prizes, taking care of the food etc. Then, at the end of the day, someone who got a free workbench asks for a 40 cent discount, requiring all sorts of computer overrides and other hassle.
I'm not saying that's what happened, but it's not an unrealistic scenario.
But, at the same time, if I bought a PM2000, I'd be a little upset as well. Everyone else is getting sale prices, so why should you, as a good customer, not be part of that? These events are supposed to bring the bargain crowd out. So I definitely see your point and understand your feelings.
This forum is a great place to vent, but it's not going to help resolve this. I suggest you give them a call, or if you're in the area swing by, and just talk about it. Woodworkers tend to be a fairly nice bunch of people, and hopefully you can work this out.

Ok I was a vague... I had bought roughly $3500 on March 1st when they had the 10% off and free clamps for the PM2000. I bought the PM2000 with the melamine 30" table or so I had thought. Paul had loaded my truck that day with a 30" work bench table extension with the vise. When I got home I didn't unpack everything until a week later. I then started unwrapping everything and to my suprise I had this wood work bench, at first I was mad I didn't get the right item and then found out everyone would rathr have it. Well at this time while it was unwrapped from the plastic and the garage door was up the wind blew a little to hard forcing the wood bench to fall over on a rock. 3 weeks later I read the directions about it having to be stained which I didn't do. The wood had warped a little. I was planning on returning the wood bench, but I live in goldsboro, don't have a lot of free time, or lots of money for gas there and back for a mistake that wasn't mine. Plus my stupidity of letting it get dented and warping a little. I told paul one day while I was at Klingspors since I had just dropped my wife off at the airport, about his mistake and how I felt bad and wish I loved closer to return it right away. He said well you got a really good deal that day then. I agreed, and thought it couldn't be to bad since I spent that much money. Then Saturday he said that. I mean I know it was only $1.40 but hey I need all the money I can get right now. I am making $700 less each paycheck. In Okinawa I get COLA and utilities money. Here I don't
I hope that explained more....
I am over it now, BAS has a really good point. They were probably really busy all day and I wanted a measley $1.40 discount. Oh well
I'm sorry Paul, and everyone for letting my feelings get hurt.
Have a good one.

They sure did look busy and like the time I bought the PM2000 it was after they had closed. I thought they closed at 6pm or thats what dave said and then when I looked at the door it said 5pm. It was 5:30 when I checked out. Sorry everyone at Klingspors, Sorry Paul for letting what you said get to me. Just realize it wasn't the best thing to say to someone who spent that much, when they could of fixed there wrecked car, that someone slammed on the brakes in front of them at a green light. Here's proof
Have a good one everyone.... I know I will, It was actually a blessing that we wrecked our car, for us, and klingspors. We never would have bought a truck, and then would have never bought all the stuff at klingapors. Couldn't very well haull all that stuff with a Acura TL now could we. The total damage is $4,200 with $2000 being labor. Just bought all the parts (Head lights at $375 each just to tell you the outrageous price of foriegn) and will give to Wayne community college auto body class to have them fix our car.
Sincerely,
Matthew

Here is my perspective, I hope it helps. Any way you look at it, you should have gotten the discount. If they rang it up and you are DQ ,you should get the discoun t. This being said, everyone has bad days, you, Paul, me and everyone else. I try not to judge anything on a one time basis. You may have gotten the better table, but you also got a machine, which weighed a ton, that had a broken wheel. Nobody wants to spent $3500 and wait a few weeks for that item to be up and running. So I believe the bad wheel was covered by the replaced worked table.
Kilingspor is one of the only games in town, woodcraft being the other. Generally klingspor is cheaper, I bought a Robert Sorby bowl scraper the other day from Klingspor $89.99 - 9.00 = $80.99 and WC was $109.99. So eventually you'll have to use them again or spend more money.
If it happens again you have a good case, for now "it is what it is" and accept that they were having a bad day. I'm sorry that you had a bad, but I'm sure there are good ones around the corner. Godspeed to you and Rachel.

I am sure I will be back when theres a time to go to Raleigh. I really don't like the 18 miles per gallon my truck gets. And when my car gets fixed it doesn't get the best gas mileage either. 17-24mpg and thats at premium gas.
Anyway Have a good one everyone, I know I will !!!

It's supposed to get 15 to 20 mpg and I get 18-19 mpg in the city 19 to 21mpg on the highway. I have thrown away the lead foot and got a nice fluffy foot for driving now!!! It sure helps out with the gas bill.
Big gulps huh, Welp see ya later.
