Well, it has been since April 4th and I am still smoke free (except for wood and grill smoke of course). I want to thank all of you for your words of encouragement and support. http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/f...-needed-13813/ I am planning to stop taking the Chantix in a week or two. The ONLY time I have strong urges to smoke is when I am driving. The shop work does not bother me any more and the good news is that is starting to taste normal now. I think I have made it through the toughest time.

Thanks

You ROCK, Tracy! Our hat is off to you for your persistence and self-control -- it is not an easy habit to quit, but you've done it! Excellent!

Tracey,
Congratulations and you hang in there and don't let your guard down. That's probably the best thing you've done for yourself and your family. You should be over the physical part, it's just the habit part that you should have to deal with. Chantix is like a magic drug, or at least it was for me. Chantix plus absolute fear () did the trick for me after +30 years of smoking.

Yes, driving is a tempting time, after you eat, when you're taking a break, drinking coffee, drinking beer, or doing complex problem solving, etc. I've been quit for 1 year +4 months. I feel better, can breath better, and don't have to deal with the nasty habit, expense, or hassle. It's great and I wouldn't start back for anything. Maybe you can avoid some of these "smoking related" health issues that I've had to deal with. I'll skip the long version for now, but I had my 2nd chemo today. Anyway, keep up your resolve and hang in there!!!

Awesome Tracy. The rest is easy. Just don't start again You'll continue to get cravings, they'll pass. I have a little program that keeps track of how long I've been smober, as well as how much money I've saved not smoking. So far, it's about one Grizzly 1023SL table saw (with shipping!). That helps in keeping the resolve.

My hat off to you.

Its been 9 years and 3 days since I quit and there are still days I think about it. I know if I ever have another one I will be a pack a day again. This is what keeps me clean.

Congrats, it does get easier.
