Just got an email this morning from the chief of the Y tribe that my boys and I are in. An excerpt:

The other main thing we need to talk about is the 3rd Year Pow Wow. This is a 2 night camping trip at Fall's Lake scheduled for Sept 26-28. The cost is $10 per pair.
The weekend of the Southern Raleigh Shop Crawl!

Of course, there is always the off chance that they will prefer to hang around the house with mom and have little or nothing to do while I disappear for the day to go have fun instead of running wild with a bunch of other 8 year olds, playing in the water, fishing, roasting marshmellows and making lifelong memories.

I wish I could be both places, but if they want to go I will take them.

There is an outside chance that too many dads in our tribe have conflicts and my boys probably wouldn't want to unless some or most of our tribe is going. But I am going to swallow hard and say I don't have one.

Andy,

You can't win for nothing bro' , and good luck with the boys not going. Well, I guess we may have to catch you the next time around, if so I'll miss you. If it helps, every time the Apex crowd has done a lunch, I've had something come up and it's been the last 3 or 4 times. I'll make it one day, hopefully.

Godspeed,
Jimmy

A choice between spending a special weekend with your boys or a day with a bunch of old grizzled (well, some of us anyway) woodworkers is a no brainer. Those boys will win everytime. We'll see you at the next crawl.

Andy, I am not on the tour but you are welcome to crawl over here anytime. That way you can put the kids first and still go on a crawl.

STUFF HAPPENS! We do the State Fair, and every year something really good (almost as good as the fair) comes up. I have had to pass on several workshops through Triangle Woodworkers over the years. After kids no longer think being with dad is cool, you can do for yourself. Better enjoy them,as soon, TOO SOON, they aren't going to want to be seen with dad. When both you and they are old and grey ( like me), you will still have the memories. TWA is planning a shop crawl in Oct.

I will leave the magazines with someone on the crawl route. Maybe I finally have an excuse to get over to Jimmy's to give him his radios back.
