You all were so supportive when we had to put our beloved boxer to sleep, and I wanted to give you an update. Our female boxer had two litters over the years, all of the pups were given to folks we picked that we knew would be good family's for them. One of them found out about us losing Buster. He had just bred his female (our female's "daughter") and said that since we gave him his pup, one of the pups will be ours. So we will have, in essence, her "grand-baby". That has us very excited because she is soooo sweet, and if any of her personality carries through - wow! (yes, we realize that it may not).

In case that wasn't enough wonderful news... Last Saturday, the Animal Shelter had an adoption event at the Tractor Supply store. We mentioned that we keep being dropped from their list of people to call when they get boxers that wind up in the shelter. This Wed. afternoon I received a call that they had received a stray male boxer - about 2 years old. They said he seems healthy (and he is beautiful), gets along with the other dogs and staff. That makes me wonder if there is some behavior issue we don't know about, but unless his former owners claim him this morning, we are going to adopt him. If John can get off early today we will pick him up this afternoon, if not, in the morning. I want both of us here when we introduce him to Samantha (our female boxer) and the house and yard.

When the puppy is available, John will keep with him during the week, and they will be home on the weekends. His work situation makes dealing with a puppy a little easier than mine. By then, the one we adopt today should be settled in, Samantha should have adjusted, and we'll add the pup. We will, fortunately, be able to keep our vet in business for years.

I'll post pictures over the weekend.

Congratulations, Cathy and John -- as dedicated dog owners and rescuers, we know that more of that unrequited love that dogs bring will be returning to you both! Sure makes for a nice way to start your weekend!

That's great news, Cathy! Now I guess one of you will have to build a triple-decker doggie bunk bed to accommodate your large brood??

Enjoy your new family members...

Sharon and I use to show Dalmatians, we had 6 adult Dals and I use to think I'd be OK with not having any when they all finally passed away. Maybe we could travel and not have to worry about the dogs. We were without any dogs for about two weeks and I couldn't take it anymore. We put the word out with one of our Vet friends and that same day she called us about a puppy that was being sent to the pound. Only 10 weeks old and the people that got her lived in an apartment (I guess she was a bit more active than they were expecting). We got Phoenix that night and a few months later we adopted Al from the Greensboro Dalmatian Rescue. They come to the studio / gallery with us every day and are happy greeting customers. Sometimes people come in just to see them! There are so many dogs and cats that need homes, thanks for opening your heart and home to one. He'll appreciate it I'm sure.
