Neighbor's House Fire Your thoughts needed

First I believe everyone is OK.

But My neighbor's house caught fire this afternoon. His motorcycle backfired or something and ignited everything in his garage and the garage. 3 different fire stations responded and got water on it before the fire got too far into the living area but he lost his boat, motorcycle, at least 1 car, and the garage callapsed. Everyone got out safe and they got their pets out.

I did snap this pic after the FD started throwing water.

We did not know them very well but the were good neighbors and I hate to see anything like this.

My hats off to a quick response from our area Volunteer Fire Department

Absolutely. Those people leave their jobs and homes any hour of the day or night, in any weather.

Hats off to the vol fire and rescue. I did it for seven years, and would gladly do it again. Glad everyone is ok!

Re: Neighbor's House Fire Your thoughts needed

Volunteer firefighters are among the best people in the world, there's no question, but this event just goes to show how dangerous motorcycles really are.

(I'll be away a bit whilst I take my FLHTCI (ElectraGlide) for an afternoon cruise)

Re: Neighbor's House Fire Your thoughts needed

That's a shame.
I agree though. This state has an amazing heritage of outstanding volunteer fire departments. Most citizens don't even realize how lucky they are.

This is also a great place for a shameless plug about having a fire extinguisher in your house...especially in the kitchen and garage.

Re: Neighbor's House Fire Your thoughts needed

I gave them some help this afternoon the damage in the house was worse than I first thought. Fire did get into the attic and burned a couple of hole in the roof on the garage side and scorched the underside of most of the roof sheathing. Some fire damege in the living area closest to the garage alot of smoke and water damage through the rest of the house.

One irony to the tragedy is Frank being a retired Army Vet was quite amazed and proud that neither of his American flags were so much as singed. Both flags were very close to the fire.
