Talking

Never had to do this before so I was wondering if anyone has advice on the best way to go about shipping an automobile? I might be buying one from a used dealer up in Ky. Twould be about 500m to the house. I could probably let the dealer make the arrangements as I am guessing they do this all the time. I imagine it might come in somewhere around $1 a mile - is that about right? Yes, I could probably go up there and get it, but I am trying to save my time and energy. In the end it won't save me a whole lot of money over having it shipped.

Has anyone here in WWing land done this recently and if so, you have any thoughts on the matter? Much thanks ...

If you are not in rush, post a note on Craig's list looking for a somebody willing to make a one way trip. YOu pay gas and meals (set a limit) and they get to travel cheaper than airfare...

Just on thought.

There are firms that haul cars 24/7/365. You can find them on the net. I had one hauled from Ill. 3 yrs ago for a little more than $1/ Mile but then gas was a LOT cheeper.

I don't think I'd trust someone from a blind post on CL with something as substantial as a car. Stick with reputable companies that are insured. If you want to shave bucks off, make the trip yourself by plane, train or bus.

I'd be surprised if you got out for less than 3.00 a mile.

If this involves a collectable/muscle car that can't be replaced to easy,I would not mess around. In the ebay ads for car sales there is always names and contact info for bonded and insured auto delivery people that can also supply enclosed transportation if the vehicle warrants it.

I know when I was in Germany and picked my car up at the port you could find someone who was dropping theirs off and catch a ride with them. They got a ride back with you. Check if there is anything like that around here that will work for you.

I would post in NC Woodworker Pony Express that I was looking for a ride to KY. Bet someone here knows someone who is going your way. Exactly where are you going? Then ride out with a stranger, along with certified check for car, and then drive back. No point in KY is more than 12 hrs away. Lousyville, I mean Louisville is less than 9 hrs away. Be sure to have alternate plans for transportation back in case car deal doesn't work out. Trains won't work, as there is no Amtrack service anywhere in KY.
