Name: Matt Meadows City: Wake Forest State: NC County: Wake Join Date: Oct 2006 Avg Visit Freq/Week = 0.00 over 180 days | Howdy all,
I live in Wake Forest and am a member at Wake Crossroads Baptist. We are looking to take a group of men, 15-20 total, out on a headboat (ie, the $80 range per person). Gulfstream, all day, bottom bouncing.
I am familiar with SOUTH Carolina, but I do not know much about North Carolina offerings. This time of the year, is a SC or a NC departure closer to the gulfstream?
Are there any good headboats in the Morehead/Beaufort area?
Thanks,
Matt

Name: Jonathan City: Greenville State: NC County: Pitt Join Date: Mar 2008 Avg Visit Freq/Week = 3.03 over 180 days | I love the Captain Stacey Great fun on that boat & everytime Ive been I've caught lots of fish! Great people the deck hands help out alot! & even play the occasional joke on a unsuspecting fisherman Great prices as I remember its under 80$ But with the price of gas who knows But it does includes everything but the fish cleaning they have a place as soon as you get off the boat that cleans the fish for you cheap! So bring a cooler for the fish! oh & you can bring a cooler with some food & drinks on the boat! I recommend those who arn't sea worthy take a sea sickness pill before they get on the boat it leave early & its a rough ride out, everyone I've seen get sick on the boat was miserable the whole day! the boat leaves around 4 am & gets back around 6 pm. But over all alot of fun! they also do group specials. Its just over the bridge going to atlantic beach on the left! I WANA GO!
Hope you have fun!

I've got a Morehead City phone book around here somewhere. When I find it I'll shoot you a few numbers

Hope you have fun! As an addition to the above statement.....their definition of "a little rough" is a LOT different than the average person's. BELIEVE HIM! Told us that it was a little "rough".....when the boat was in between swells, the only way to see anything but water was to look UP. 67 people on board 62 got seasick. That included a guy that spent 20 years in the Navy. One poor fellow had sausage pizza and a red juice drink for breakfast. About 8:30, he exploded.

I've been offshore on SC boats several times (once, in a 20 yr old 23ft Dixie that was broke down, in 10ft seas, 60 miles offshore, being towed in at about 3 mph). Not once have I been sick, and rarely take anything to prevent it.
We'll be packing quite a bit of dramamine for those who might do some chumming.

I don't fish, but I know a few people that would know exactly who to reccomend if you are thinking about coming down to Wrightsville/Carolina Beach. I'll ask around if you want. I do know that the gulf stream "the stream" is about 50 miles offshore from here, and if my memory serves me correctly, the further South you go from here the closer it is. I think in Florida it takes about 15 minutes to get to the gulf stream, whereas here it takes an hour or two (booking it). The surf has been relatively flat for the most part here for quite a while now (great days for fishing). However, if you do get unlucky and pick the wrong day, it will not be pretty. Just let me know and I'll ask some of my fishing buddies.
Trent

I grew up on the Gulf coast of Florida and fished almost every day of my life until I was 17. Since moving to NC I have been fishing ONCE (here) and we caught one whopping 6" (yes, INCH) bass in Lake Norman ... WEAK!
Maybe someone who knows where to go can chime in ... but this could be a good group thing. Even if it's only a couple of people on a small charter on the lake, or a larger thing where 20 of us go. |

The Captain Stacey has a boat that goes out only cost 35 bucks per person! & theres nothing more fun then catching shark at night! its only for a couple of hours but its still alot of fun in nice & calm so no one has to worry about sea sickness & they stay close to shore I think it would be alot of fun & it wouldn't be a major trip that would need alot of planning & if all goes well then we can step it up a notch & do the whole day thing! But none the less you can count me in!!!!!!!!

Since you live in Wake Forest, consider the Oregon Inlet. It's a delightful, hassle-free drive on the upgraded Hwy 64 to Nags Head and about 15 miles south on Hwy 12 through the National Seashore. I would estimate the drive at ~3.5 hours; about the same as Morehead City. Oregon Inlet has a large marina with numerous head boats and the Gulf Stream is closer (ergo, more fishing and less traveling). Here's a link to the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, "home of the largest and most modern fishing fleet on the eastern seaboard"
Oh BTW, I've never been out on a headboat
Roger
