Is my price too high?

I was wondering if I have priced my equipment too high. I started at $400 and dropped it to $300. Seems reasonable to me for 4 pieces of equipment and all the extras, even if they do need some cleanup, but then I don't know what the market for old iron is. I have it posted here, Saw Mill Creek and Hickory Craig's List and no serious bites.

Advice?

Re: Is my price too high?

I'm sorry, I don't have a direct answer for your question. I can give my opinion though, I think that most members here and on SMC already have an equipped shop so that old metal (and in the smaller sizes) would only be of interest for those who take delight in rebuilding old equipment. And once rebuilt, there is probably not a big market for these so that one would not get their costs (material and time) back. Just my opinion.

George

Re: Is my price too high?

I don't know if it's priced wrong. You are just going to have to find the right buyer.

Hope you can find one soon!

Re: Is my price too high?

interesting question. No answer.
I don't think it is too high. Like written above, most of us probably have most of the equipment we need. You might find someone in need but it is a timing thing. Also in the age of $4 a gallon gas, a lot of people (like me) have limited disposable income. I'd hate to have to replace something right now.

For what its worth, I'd say you have some pretty decent deals in there.

Re: Is my price too high?

It seems a good price for someone wanting to get into WW'ing. They will get a lot of function for not much scratch. Just hang tight.

Re: Is my price too high?

Well I'll be in the minority and say that $300 is too much for a bunch of 'stuff' that needs some 'creation' to be usable. Remember people are looking for 'deals' if they are probably looking on Craigslist (I know I am). I have passed a lot of things by but have got some great deals just because I could go get it right now, had cash in hand (I always have some mad money stashed away) and the deals were fantastic.

The guy that wants to just start out in woodworking is going to be scared of that drill press because it is older than his grandfather. He probably also doesn't want to figure out how to piece items together to get them working.

The motors and the sanding disk need some creative fabrication to get working to do something useful.

If it was me iId try and sell them as individual pieces. motors $20 each, drill press $30, rotary sander $20, saw and all the blades for $200.

Re: Is my price too high?

I'll have to chime in with Andrew's reply. With gas @ $4/gallon, most people are circling their wagons & don't have a lot of disposable income. They're like me now & can't afford to do 'fixer uppers' or anyting else until this thing settles down. Personally, I'd love to upgrade all my stuff but I see I'm gonna have to make do for a while longer unless a great deal just falls out of the sky.
