Residency requirements

North Carolina Woodworker is aimed primarily at Woodworkers in North Carolina. We will accept automatically users from NC, VA, TN, SC.

All others registrant's accounts will be put into Moderation, once they have verified their email address. Most of these registrants will be declined by our staff. This has nothing to do with you personally.. It has to do with our desire to maintain the local nature of our discussions, functions, etc. However, we do accept non-residents in a few special cases.

  • People who, in the staff's judgment, offer special skills that are not represented in depth with our current membership.
  • People who have a special interest in woodworking in North Carolina and/or work in the state.
  • People who represent manufacturers and/or retail vendors of woodworking tools.
  • Other exceptions may be made as deemed appropriate by the staff of www.ncwoodworker.net

However, registrants that do not meet the automatic registration requirement , MUST provide information as to why they should be considered for non resident membership. This is done by filling in the "Non Resident Join Request" field of the registration application. Remember that a non resident registration is placed into moderation. When the staff reviews these accounts, their attention is placed on the "Non Resident Join Request" field. If it is NOT filled in, the registration will automatically be declined.

Off Topic Our new off topic forum. This is the place to discuss non-woodworking or non-site related topics. Be advised that the posting rules for this forum are same as all other forums.

My First Post
...on my new computer. I built (or is that "builded") it with a barebones kit I got from TigerDirect(ASUS motherboard, AMD Athlon X2 +6000 CPU, GeForce video card, 2GB RAM), with a 19" LCD monitor.

, I love to build them, but it is getting about cheaper to buy them already built. Asus has always done well by me, never had an Asus board fail.

Sounds like fun. I replaced the mother board in my desk top and it still works 2 years later.

I'm still using an 8 year old PowerMac G-4 that hasn't been opened since I took it out of the box and installed the extra memory.

No, I take that back, I put a 120GB drive in it Aug. 10, 2006 at 8:55 PM.

I've yet to build wooden cases, although that is an interesting thought. The only computers I've ever had in my house I've built from parts and/or scraps from various sources.

What operating system did you load? Did you get a good deal on that too?

My last homebuilt computer is now five years old and still running on Win98. LOML and I use our laptops mostly, but I have the printer and wireless router connected to the old unit.

As for Linux, you also may want to look at Fedora. You will need a DVD burner and broadband to download it though. The advantage over Ubuntu is that it comes with full Gnome, and KDE desktops, Open Office for WP, spreadsheets,etc, GIMP for editing, resizing digital photos, a wealth of other software and utilities, as well as Firefox browser. Its all open source (free) and has good online support forums.
