Getting close to 24 hours without nicotine. I spent a ton of time in the shop today. I finished rough cutting the Ash for the two end tables I am attempting to make. I rough cut to length, allowing an inch or two on each end for snipe from my planer. I edge jointed the mating surfaces so that all sides are equal and will fit together well. I planed all pieces to exacting thickness. Pardon the bandsaw.
I did all I could in the shop today to keep from smoking. I really want to thank all of you that have responded to this thread with the intention of helping a fellow woodworker and friend along when it is most needed and wanted. You are some totally AWESOME people and I am most proud to be a part of this Family.

Congrats on getting the FIRST DAY DONE!
Lots of fighting ahead, just keep planing that lumber. And if you feel you're winning the battle but losing the war, remember to come back and post for a support reload.

Tracy,

Another word of encouragement from a been there done that person. Your are getting great advice.

Knew a guy who tried for years to quit and the thing that did it for him was little "red hots". Those little red candies that are cinnamon flavored and a little hot. He put a small handful of red hots in his mouth every time he had a STRONG craving...it worked for him. I imagine there was some weight gain.

Keep strong...hang in there. You can do it.

It is amazing how this group comes together in a member's time of need, it is also amazing that I am sitting in my living room munching on RED HOTS!!!

Seems that when we are in need , we all come together to assist each other, That is what the family here is all about. I am proud to be a member of this wonderful group of people!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to all of you.

One day at a time, that is all you can do.

Unlike you, I still have my final pack here in my shop. I didn't smoke in the house and the shop was my smoking refuge. I want one, but won't. Heck, when I am asleep I even dream about them, dream about sneaking one and telling people that I still haven't smoked one.

My shop and my truck was my smoking refuge, it was hard being in the shop all day today and not lighting up. Of course with all of the sawdust that was floating around it may have been a bad thing to strike the lighter. I haven't started assembling the end tables yet, just trying hard to get the dusty stuff done before surgery. Once I get started assembling I may wish that I had struck the lighter while the sawdust was floating.

I am anxiously awaiting the time that I will not want one.

Thanks for the reply. And hang in there.

No pics, didn't happen.
Thinking about smoking, doesn't matter
Dreaming about smoking, doesn't count
Wanting a cigarette, doesn't matter.

All that matters is NOT SMOKING ANOTHER ONE.

And tools of course.

Tracy, that really is something. I stopped bothering to count the number of 'sponsors' you have in your effort. I forget the order of the twelve steps, but you are well on your way! I cannot commiserate in your efforts to quit smoking, haven't been there, but I can wish you the very best of luck in your efforts.!!!

So here is the deal. I wish you the best possible outcome from your surgery. I am sure the only way that is going to happen is if all the variable factors are optimized in your favor. So is smoking in your favor? What would be worse? A Failed surgery or Nicotine withdrawal! This is where all that mental tuoghness and problem solving that you learned as a woodworker is really going to pay off. Once again my best wishes to you and luck has nothing to do with it. Kick that addiction in the ***!!!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE:

Today was a tough day, first day back at work and honestly I did ok. I work in retail, automotive collision center manager and as today was the last day of the month and the owner is looking for numbers. The pressure almost got to me a couple of times. I had my pre-op appointment today with the surgeon and he tells me that after my surgery I will not want to smoke. Surgery is Monday and scheduled for between 3 1/2 and five hours. Thanks to all of you for the continued support.

Outstanding! The first day at work can be tough, so many routines you build up that you have to relearn. You're doing great!!! Keep it up Tracy, you can do this.

Maybe the big honkin router coming tomorrow on the brown truck will help. A Milwaukee 5625-20 scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Thanks Bas.

Your eyes will be as big as saucers when you open that baby up for the first time -- it is an awesome piece of machinery -- I got mine more than a year ago and have it mounted in my router table with a JoinTech cabinetmaker's precision fence. When I adjusted the speed control down to the 9-10,000 RPM range with a 3-1/4" panel raising bit and ran some nice white oak door panels through it ... oh, man what a feeling! Enjoy the new toy err

Yeah it's a shame that the brown tool truck runs at about three o'clock and I have to work until 6 o'clock. I can't wait to hear it purr.
