I thought on-line instruction was supposed to be cheaper than classroom study?

Not so with Duke's Paralegal program, at least.

Classroom instruction is $6000.

On-line is $7000.

The classroom instruction requires an Associates Degree, which I have, the on-line apparantly does not, although I don't see why that would make a difference in the tuition??????

Must be the convenience factor ... they finally realized everyone was going online and figured they'd charge more (??)

Could be. Traveling to and from Durham could eat up any "savings" what with the price of fuel and all......Lots of folks could no doubt fit an on-line approach into their schedules more easily.....

Probably has NOTHING to do with it, but I have heard many instructors say multiple times that online classes are A LOT more work than face-to-face classes.

At the college I worked at, I heard this also, an instructor has to interact with each individual student a lot more than they would in a normal mass lecture setting. Having said that, I believe that sadly college bean counters are seeing the explosion in distance learning as a cash cow to be milked as much as possible since the funds a student would normally spend on campus for food, incidental bookstore purchases etc. are not happening when they are learning at home. Just my opinion

Tom, I can say that in my on-line program, tuition rates are comparable to on-campus rates. I think the relative reduced costs are those associated with commuting, campus meals, campus living arrangements, etc.... of course, those things don't mesh well with the needs of working adult learners. I am at a loss to explain the difference in your tuition costs.
