Ouch, I hope recovery time is short for you. You are gonna feel much better without them. I have had a couple but was lucky, or is that unlucky enough to pass mine.

Here's hoping for a quick recovery. I think we are all just getting old. Seems as if falling apart is part of the precess.

Buddy at the office just had his broken up and they removed themselves last week. He suffered for months before that.

ACK!!!. I feel your pain. I was diagnosed with a 7mm kidney stone last year in June (2007). My Dr after a month, said "It must have passed without you noticing." Now pick up any 30cal bullet, and the diameter of that bullet was the longest side of my kidney stone.

Long story short. It laid me out in October while we were camping with the cub scouts. (I truely believe that is when it finally made it to my blader.) I actually passed it in February. That part was not as painful as I thought it would be. It didn't feel good, but I wasn't curled up in the floor either.

Anyway, good luck with your recovery. Drink lots of water, and pray you don't get anymore.

I had a couple over the years, all associated with working hard or working out hard (swimming) and getting dehydrated. The worst one wasn't the biggest one, just the most irregular shaped one. We had a guy in the neighborhood who had his stones blasted- they put him in a tank of water and hit him with a special high power pressure wave (sonar?) which broke the stones into smaller pieces which he could pass.

My wife doesn't buy it, but I think passing a big, irregularly shaped stone (from kidney to bladder) hurts as much as having a baby. (In comparison passing from the bladder to the toilet is just an inconvenience.)

That sonar blast is exactly what my coworker had done last week. He suffered for many months before they recommended that ... then within a day and with moderate pain he passed the stones. Think I would have done that earlier!

Sorry to hear about this! Happy everything is going well and hope your plumbing didn't get damaged. (Ouch!!!!)
Any clue as to the type of stone? Not sure about specifics but I do know instant lemonade and water are good things to prevent them.
Lots of good info here:
http://www.rogerbaxter.com/KidneySto...yStone_4.shtml
This is interesting: "North Carolina has more kidney stone cases per capita than any other state. Several factors probably come into play to create this situation. One is the typical southern diet which is high in green vegetables and brewed tea - both of which are high in oxalates. The second is the hot climate which causes increased amounts of perspiration and loss of body fluid. And finally, modern life styles often reduce physical activity."

Hey Kyle,

Sorry to hear about the problem..I know how you feel after going through it myself a couple of years ago.

The pain can bring you to your knees..or flat on the floor in my case.

They used Lithotripsy on mine and after two shots of ultrasonic bombardment the stones were pulverized and that was that.

Don't ever want that again...nobody ever gave me a good explanation of why they come..or if they'll come back. Seems like there's a bunch of baby ones in every kidney that usually just dissolve with time..but every so often some just get nasty.

Hope you're feeling better

Don

Tell your wife that having a baby isn't in the same league as having a kidney stone. I see women with more than one child, but no one, male or female who wants a second stone. Had my first cut out in 1980, yes CUT OUT, and had my last blasted in 2006. When they are blasted, you still have a bunch of little stones to pass. Told my wife I was going to wet in the driveway, and save on buying a load of gravel.
