This post will probably upset Dick......but hear goes I got a call early this morning from my daughter... she was on her way to work in Martinsville Va. and saw a tow truck towing Dick's 2007 Prius. Now I am 100 miles from there and you can imagine what went through my mind. I called Dick's work in Martinsville and he had just walked in the door and my daughter was on their other line looking for Dick. He is fine but it sounds like our new Prius is gone. A tractor tailer truck hit him. NICE....huh?

Good to hear he walked away from the accident.
Sad to hear about the new car. Hope the truck driver is insured.

Best Wishes!

Oh NO! I was only taking to him about the car on Saturday and how much he loved it! Well, I assume he'll be off to Toyota as soon as the insurance pays up. Glad he's safe though, maybe quiet those people that accuse small cars of being death traps.

Good to hear he is OK. Losing the car sucks, but cars can be replaced. I hope the insurance situation won't drag out too long - best of luck!!!

And thanks for posting.

Glad to hear he walked away safely. Most of the time, tractor trailer rigs just don't pick on something their own size!!

Like the others I am glad Dick is fine. FWIW since the prius uses some sophisticated batteries you might want to check with your insurance compnay about the salvage value of the car. While it may be totaled you may still be able to get some good $ for it. It depends on whether the insurance company gets possession of it.

Thank you all for the concern about Dick. The problem with the accident is that it wasn't anyones fault...they both had green lights although the truck had a yield sign to make a left turn and he never slowed down. Dick said the cop said niether was at fault? So far the insurance has been very good they have called 3 times already to give me info I will need to get Dick a rental car.We have State Farm insurance and 9 yrs ago when had an accident they paid for everything. What did I do why did my font change? anyway the airbag didn't work so Dick will be talking to Toyota about that.

Sheet metal and paint can be fixed or replaced, the ones we love can not. Happy to hear your's walked away from this one.

Don't mean to steal your thread but thought this might me a good time to mention something I just learned about insurance and wrecks. Some of you may remember that I had several posts about 3 weeks ago about a tractor trailer running 55 mph hitting my son's car. The truck ran a red light. My son is doing great. He is back to work but is still really sore.

We ended up hiring a lawyer. This part of things has turned into a real mess. The lawyer told me something about the medical insurance that I had no idea about. We all know that insurance companies have contracts with medical providers and settle for less than the actual bill. Let's say BC&bandsaw is your medical insurance provider. When they find out someone else is libel for your injuries they have the right to seek payment for the total amount of the bill. They can even decide not to bill the hospital, as an example, and send the bill directly to you. Even if they do send the bill to the hopital and accept partial payment they can then look to you to pay the difference. My lawyer said the truckers insurance will try to get us to accept the amount the hospital will accept. The discounted amount. If you settle for this and BC&bandsaw comes looking for the difference a year from now you may find your self paying a large bill.

I have learned a lot I really did not want to know. I would highly recommend if you are in an accident where the other party is a fault you should hire a lawyer.

Hope this makes sense and I got it right.

I'm with all the others here and am really glad that Dick is alright.

If the collision speed was less than 15mph, the airbag will not deploy. I got into a left-turn situation back in 2001 with my Saab. $11k worth of damage but no airbag deployment, as the speeds involved were not sufficient. In theory, a truck can pretty much run over and squish the whole front of the car and the bag should stay in its pouch. They work on deceleration, IIRC.
