We are indeed sorry for your loss. The passing of our loved ones is never easy.

My grandmother was almost 91 when she passed away back in 1993.
How odd at times to truly consider the 'elderly'. I turned 50 this past week, and she was always an "old woman" to me. She buried her parents, her grandparents, 9 brothers and sisters, 1 son, 1 grandson, 1 daughter in-law, one son in -law, countless cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances.
I thought once and wanted to ask her how did she have time in her life to do much except attend funerals and grieve. I didn't have to , she told me that she never went to a funeral of someone that didn't mean something to her What else could she have done?
She worked a full time job since the age of 15 while in school and worked until she was over 80. She grew up on a farm in times when you ate only what you grew. She lived through 2 world wars, korea, and vietnam. The great depression was just another era in her life. She had 4 different pensions and social security. The proverbial 'cheap skate' to a dumb kid, she could pinch a penny and make it scream! Waste not want not. Everything she had was taken care of like most people can't imagine. You could hardly tell what was new and what she used. It came out of a package and went back into it. That package was to protect it.
I always seemed to compare her to her sister. She was a "lively little old lady". My grandmother woke and seemed to dread the coming day. Her sister relished every day and was so happy to see every sunrise and sunset. Once I was told of some of my grandmother's past. She had 17 gastro-intestinal surgeries. I can't recall all the other surgeries, gall bladder, appendicitis, but I know there were many more. All the other 'normal' "old people" problems, arthritis, heart problems, cataracts, etc. that she always seemed to be dealing with. She hurt a lot. She truly knew what pain was. Many kinds of pain.
The day she died we were there and the last thing she said to me was "finally no more pain, its over".

I often wish I had known her when she wasn't an "old lady". Now I wish I had taken the time to get to know that "old lady" and appreciate the things she might have shared with a "stupid kid"...
As always too late~

Our condolences to you and your family. It is never easy, and having to go through all the emotions again in FL does not make it easier. I had the same situation when my mother passed on.

Rest assured, she is now in a better place and with all her friends and family that have gone on before.
